Tustumena Elementary

August 27, 2019

We're in full swing now!

We have the first week of school down and the kids are all learning their routines very well. Thank you for working with them at home on a good routine as well. Also, thank you for returning papers to the school that were sent home last week. If you haven't completed them, please do so as soon as possible. .

As a reminder, the main entrance of the school remains locked until 8:30am because we do not have staff here to monitor students before then. Please do not drop off your children before 8:30am.

Tustumena School is working on building confidence in our students. To help facilitate this, please say good-bye to your child in the foyer area and allow them to walk themselves to class. We have placed signs at the beginning of both halls to remind everyone. The ONLY EXCEPTION is PreK parents may walk their children down to class between 8:45 and 9am. If PreK students arrive late, a staff member will walk them to class. If you have a matter that you need to discuss with a teacher, you may either send a note or call to schedule a time to meet with them. This allows teachers to greet their students as they arrive and begin instruction on time. Thank you for your support with this.

There have been a few questions regarding the buses. If you are wondering about the bus routes and stop closest to your home, you may look that up by going to the school district website at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us, clicking on Students/Parents then Pupil Transportation/Bus and using the InfoFinder. Or you can use this link . The school office also has bus route information and we are happy to give you a copy upon request.

If you have not already done so, now is a great time to renew your volunteer application for the entire school year. These must be completed each school year and is school specific (you have to select Tustumena), so even if you were approved last school year, you would have to resubmit your application for this school year. If you would like to have the option of attending class parties or events, field trips, visiting or volunteering in the classroom, playground, or school during school hours, you must have this application complete. It can take a few weeks for the process to complete, so don’t wait until you hear of something you want to attend – apply now to be ready. It must be done online at https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/employment.aspx?id=19556. If you have trouble accessing computers or internet, the Kasilof Public Library is located in our school and is open Monday – Thursday from 2-6pm.
