Feeling Thankful
It's been a year of necessary flexibility, adaptation and patience. (Which means a LOT of growth for me!). Each day brings a new adventure and opportunities for gratitude. My appreciation of being part of our school community is my constant. Thank you for enriching our school experience for our students, staff and families!
Please let us know what's going well at LSS and how we can improve. Your voice matters! The survey information and link are below.
Thank you,
Tracy

Survey time!
The Vernon Public Schools conducts annual surveys of students, parents, teachers, and staff as part of a coordinated effort to improve schools. Vernon Public Schools has formed a partnership with Panorama Education to plan, administer, and collect feedback data. The survey is available for families Oct . 30th to Nov. 20th.
Helping students do their best in school requires a team effort. To help all of us learn
how to make your child's schooling experience as positive and beneficial as possible, please give us your honest, thoughtful responses by participating in the survey!
Please base your responses on your own experiences as a parent/guardian.
Participate online: The link is found below. Surveys are available online in English, Spanish, and Urdu. Please complete 1 survey per school that you have a child attending.
The survey should take you approximately 10 minutes to complete. All of your responses
are completely anonymous.

Did you know that a weekly communication called “Thursday Flyers” is sent to families via e-mail on Thursdays? If you are not receiving this information, please contact me so we can double check your e-mail address to make sure you are receiving this. Special notices about upcoming events here at LSS are usually in this communication as well as some fun filled town wide events.

Prevent Flu This Fall and Winter
According to the CDC it is likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both spread this fall and winter. Healthcare systems could be overwhelmed treating both patients with flu and patients with COVID-19. This means getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever. Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions.
While getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, there are many important benefits, such as:
- Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death.
- Getting a flu vaccine can also save healthcare resources for the care of patients with COVID-19.
3. Flu vaccination can keep you from getting sick with flu.
4. Flu vaccination can reduce the risk of flu-associated hospitalization for children, working age adults, and older adults.
- Flu vaccination is an important preventive tool for people with chronic health conditions.
- Flu vaccination helps protect women during and after pregnancy.
- Flu vaccine can be lifesaving in children.
- Flu vaccination has been shown in several studies to reduce severity of illness in people who get vaccinated but still get sick.
- Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you.
CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older gets a flu vaccine. Contact your child’s doctor to have the vaccine administered. Most pharmacies will administer the vaccine to individuals over 18.
Healthy Snack List
The Vernon Wellness Committee has set guidelines for all town elementary schools in order to encourage healthy snacks for the students. Adjustments to their
guidelines are made on a building by building basis due to specific food allergies.
Lake Street School’s policy is to maintain consistency within a grade level.
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Dried fruits such as raisins
Applesauce, canned fruits and vegetables
Cheese, Cottage Cheese
Cheerios, plain only
Pretzels, plain only
Yogurt, Yogurt with fruit
Popcorn, plain only
Crackers
Rice Cakes
Turkey, plain only
Ham, plain only
Juice Boxes (must be 100% real juice)
Water
Due to the number of tree nut/peanut allergies we have not included
tree nuts/peanuts/peanut butter on the snack list.
The School Wellness Council also supports “food free” birthday celebrations.
A student’s birthday is a special day and each class will choose activities to recognize this important day. We ask that parents not send in food for their child’s birthday.
Please read the manufacturer’s label and be sure your
selection is not from a factory that processes nuts or peanuts.
THIS POLICY DOES NOT AFFECT STUDENTS’ LUNCHES. STUDENTS WILL
BE ABLE TO EAT PEANUT BUTTER, CONSUME DAIRY PRODUCTS, DRINK
MILK, AND EAT WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE DURING LUNCH.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
