To start off, you need to comprehend that Stone Mountain is the largest piece of exposed granite in North America. There is a carving of the Confederates: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. This carving serves as a memorial to the Confederates of the Civil War. But before that bloody time in history, Stone Mountain got its name in 1847. It's a good thing the alp got its name before the tragedy began.
By the way, Stone Mountain was formed by a shifting in the Earth’s tectonic plates. Because of this, the plates caused heat and friction which melted a huge portion of rock called magma. The magma remained beneath the Earth’s surface. Then, the magma was exposed to the Earth. Finally, weathering washed all the land on top of the dome away.
As I have said, I have been to Stone Mountain. I have seen it and stood on the butte. I feel good that I know more about this historical landform. I think that the city would be less popular without Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain made Dekalb County a very popular place to visit.
In conclusion, Stone Mountain got its name in 1847. It is a memorial to the Confederate Army.
