First Semester Report Cards

The First Semester of the 2016-2017 school year ended on Friday, December 16, 2016, and TMS students' final grades were calculated by their teachers during our first week back in January. On Friday, January 6th, students in grades 4/5/6 carried home their report cards, while students in grades 7 and 8 had their report cards mailed home. If you or your child has questions/concerns about a grade, please contact the teacher directly. If you did not receive a copy of your child's report card because you have moved/changed your contact information, please call the office to update your information. Thank you.

*Please note an error in the printing of the 4/5 report cards: The report card should have read Principal's List is 3.5 and above - NOT "305 and above." We apologize for this printing error.

MAP testing scores and next steps

In addition to receiving your child's Semester One Report Card, you also received your child's most recent MAP testing scores and an informational letter from the Lakeport Unified School District. During the month of January, teachers will be focusing the majority of their professional development hours on the analysis of their students' MAP scores, as well as the grade-level and schoolwide trends, etc. This careful review of individualized data will help teachers adjust their instruction to meet the needs of each individual student. For additional information about MAP testing, please visit NWEA's website with specific resources for parents: https://www.nwea.org/assessments/resources-for-parents/

Do you know about Donors Choose?

Donors Choose is a website that allows anyone to "help bring a classroom's dreams to life." Recently, one of Terrace Middle School's sixth-grade teachers, Kerry Lopez, created a project ("Expository Text Library: We Love to Read") that was fully funded by contributions via Donors Choose. Although Mrs. Lopez inspired anonymous donations from as far as Texas and Virginia, several local residents (and some formerly local folk) also generously donated to this project: Reneé Teverbaugh, Jennifer Strong, Sheila Gatton, Donna Rose, Sally Johnsen, Becky Jeffers, and Cinamon Vann, to name a few. Please log onto the website today to choose a project that inspires YOU!

Wondering how to help your child with homework?

Many of our parents/guardians have asked how to better support their students' learning at home. Teachers are recommending one website in particular: www.learnzillion.com LearnZillion is a site that provides teachers and parents with video lessons showing what students need to learn each year. The lessons include a 3-5 minute long lesson video, downloadable slides, and other resources for practice and assessment. Check it out!
