Vision
Standout: with Strong Hearts and Strong Minds
Mission Statement
34 Opportunities -- READ PLEASE
- PROWL instruction begins at 7:50. We dismiss students to the classroom at 7:45. They will be in your rooms as soon as they are dismissed. This gives them time to transition, get their things settled in your room, and seated so you are ready to begin teaching at 7:50 if not even sooner. I have seen several students standing in the hall waiting and that is not the purpose of sending them down at 7:45. Also, please do not stand at your door and wait for us to come call for students. You go ahead and get started with the students you have and we will come to you to call for the students you need.
- Instruction should begin by 8:30. Attendance and lunch counts should be taken care of quickly and orderly to ensure that you are instructing by 8:30.
- Intervention times should be considered top priority. The times are limited and being late even a couple minutes cuts out so much precious time with students. - If you need help remembering then set an alarm on your phone to remind you when it's time to go. I have to do this for many things.
- Behaviors - We can NOT use behaviors as an excuse. We had very real and honest conversations about this at the beginning of the school year. We can't say that students are not learning because of lack of focus, motivation, or other behaviors. When we say things like they CAN'T focus or they WON'T listen or they WON'T do their work we doubt the expertise in our building. The answers are in the room and if we use them and think outside the box we will find them. We MUST face these opponents head on and find a way to beat them. We MUST say ... We haven't found the right tool yet but we will! Please remember the PINK folder of resources you were given AND that all behavior is some form of communication. Think outside the box and try to determine what needs our students are trying to have met and then ask for HELP or ideas for meeting them. Please also remember the steps you are to take before an office referral. They are in the faculty handbook if you have forgotten.
Do you have greatness within? Do you see our more challenging students as an obligation or an opportunity to grow?
"Recognizing a Champion:"
"You are in the presence of a true competitor when you observe that he or she is indeed getting the most joy out of the most difficult circumstances. The real competitors love a tough situation. That's when they focus better and function better. At moments of maximum pressure, they want the ball. You begin to see it as time goes by. Not immediately, but gradually you see the real competitors relish the challenge, the bigger the better. The more difficult the game, the more they improve. True competitors derive their greatest pleasure out of playing against the very best opponents, even though they may be outscored. The difficult challenge provides the rare opportunity to be their best. Often great competitors don't quite have the physical skills of more gifted players, but they get more out of what they have at moments of great pressure. Thus, I base my judgement on not just what they had but how they used it. To what extent did they attempt to bring forth their abilities? To what extent did they accomplish that under maximum pressure? This is how I identified competitors who had greatness within. " - John Wooden
StandOUT Award
Mr. Legris passed the StandOUT to Mrs. Medina.
Mr. Legris said βThe teacher I would like to pass the Standout Award to is always doing what is best everyone here at Springhill. She holds not only herself to high standards, but her students to equally high standards which they always rise to. Her lessons are always engaging, energetic, and fun for everyone. It is so inspiring to see a fellow teacher grow so much in a short amount of time and it shows through her students success. She is always willing to give of her time and heart to do whatever it takes for all students here at Springhill to be successful inside and outside of the classroom. I would like to pass the torch to Mrs. Medina.β
