East Granby High School Newsletter
May/June 2015
Principal's Newsletter
Dear Students, Parents, Guardians and Friends of EGHS,
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer. I hope that you have the opportunity to get some rest, spend some time with loved ones, and have a few great adventures.
Last night we had graduation. Graduation for me is always a bitter sweet moment in that we are both excited and sad to see our students go on to the next part of their lives.
This month’s newsletter captures many of the events of the last month. Huge thanks to Lynn Ash, who, in her capacity as yearbook advisor, took and shared hundreds of photos this year.
Thanks also to Sarah Carney and Dennis Mullane, who were this year’s senior class advisors. Thank you also to our custodial staff, Leonard, Craig, Larry and Lisa who did an incredible job of getting our building and grounds ready.
See you next fall!
All the Best,
David Peling Sr.

Rising seniors are working hard on their college lists and plans for their future.
IN OUR CLASSROOMS...
World History
World History students wrote papers discussing whether or not a selected country was following the United Nation's Declaration of Human Rights. The following video segment has the students suggesting possible ways that their selected nation could improve their Human Rights.
Foods
Our foods classes put on a brunch of casseroles, fruit, and pastries for the Senior Citizens annual visit to our high school, at the On Stage Cafe. This was done in cooperation with the student councils hosted tours and the music departments entertaining our wonderful guests. The students exclaimed how nice the Senior Citizens were, as they enjoyed this experience.
Food for entertaining students enjoyed their cupcake creation competition. Winning cupcakes were the hamburger and fries, Cappuccino, and Under the Sea designs. for taste, and creativity.
Child Development
The Child Development class ended their preschool child study program, with a brief graduation ceremony and reception. We will miss the children, and look forward to seeing them for a reunion story session in June, where students will read the books they are creating.
World Language
By Señora Duffy
Students in Señora Duffy's Spanish II class celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Mexican treats, including these cupcakes (frosted in the colors of the Mexican flag), made and decorated by Meghan Hasenbalg and Jordin Comstock. ¡Viva México!
The students in AP Spanish and Honors Spanish IV recently celebrated "Festival Mariposa" with the 1st grade students of Allgrove School. Students of Mrs. Claire Hart, Mrs. Helaine Smith, and Ms. Ariel Levesque participated in dance, games and crafts all organized by students of Señora Duffy. The 15th annual festival took place on June 5 to culminate the 1st grade science unit on the migration of the Monarch Butterfly from Mexico to New England and back.
The following students directed 75 1st graders in a delightful day of Hispanic celebration: Francesca Brose, Sai Chintalpelly, Allison Dube, Sydney Geer, India Little, Sabrina Barry, Jason Bourgault, Helena Brody, Sarah Calano, Paige Derlinga, Adrian Eaton, Kelsey Gibbs, Kyle Harvey, Ortiro Iqbal, Alisha Kumar, Olivia Morris, and DylanTeixeira.
Mrs. Mullane and the Spanish II students have been applying their understanding of past tense for the last two months. They created digital stories of their families and what they “used to do” in their childhoods. Students were required to provide photos (realistic or not) of family members and to create a speaking project about the repeated traditions, habits, and experiences of their lives. Below are just a few snapshots of the Spanish students in action! Watch out for their children’s storybooks about to be published this June!
