Third Grade Thrills
with Mrs. Krajewski September 4, 2015
Great first week!
This week was filled with getting acquainted, learning routines, and establishing expectations. We have a very special and compatible class. We are very lucky. This should be an exciting year.
I would like to thank most of you for completing the survey about your child. This helps give me insight into your child and your expectations. I want to build a relationship with my parents, which can foster the most growth in each and every child.
Assignment notebooks are used as a communication tool between home and school. It is important that children have parents sign their assignment notebook on a daily basis. Feel free to include notes, if you need.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
Dominic Williams
Dominic and his adorable smile joins us from Hartland North Elementary Charter School. His positive attitude adds a great spark to the class! We welcome him!
Carter Huf
Carter also joins us from Hartland North, but he and Dominic did not know each other. Carter is a sports guy who loves to play kickball! Welcome Carter!
Science
Third grade will be using an update FOSS curriculum this year. Our first unit is Force and Matter. We are starting with magnetism this week. Throughout the year we alternate between science and social studies.
Reader's Workshop
In second grade children had guided reading as the main source of instruction. In third grade we are using Reader's Workshop. This is similar to the Writer's Workshop model that the children, and teachers are used to. I am very excited to teach using his new method. A significant emphasis is put on reading stamina, or being able to productively read foe extended periods of time. That is a huge focus in these first few weeks.
Spelling
You should have received your child's first spelling list and packet. In the dictated sentence section please make up a sentence to see if your child can spell the words in context. Packets are due on Thursday and a test will be given at school on Thursday. We will also use spellingcity.com to practice. They will be shown how to access it on Tuesday, at school.
