How do Kinetic and Potential Energy different?
The Potential Energy is stored energy while Kinetic Energy is the energy of motion.
Can Kinetic and Potential Energy be energy?
Potential energy is the available energy that can be used and Kinetic energy is the energy actually being used. Think of potential energy as been a high cliff with water on top. The high the cliff the more energy available. If no water is falling though, there is nothing being used, But the potential for falling water is still there. Kinetic energy is the water that actually falls.
Kinetic Energy
Kinetic energy is the energy in the object due to it's motion. As long as the object is moving in the same velocity, it will maintain the same Kinetic Energy.
Formula: kinetic energy= 1/2 x mass x (velocity squared)
Potential Energy
Potential energy is the stored energy an object contains. It depends on the object's mass, as well as it's position relative to the earth.
Formula: potential energy= mass x acceleration of free fall x change in height
Conservation of Energy
The law of conservation of energy states that energy can't be created or destroyed. Instead, it an only be converted, or transformed, into a different type of energy. For example, chemical energy can convert to kinetic energy.
