Doing Data Right
Wow...just wow is all I can say about digging into student data with you on our Gold Day. It takes incredible grace and grit to trust a virtual stranger to lead you through a conversation around what is most precious to all of us - student achievement. Thank you for trusting me to question and to push your thinking. Thank you for your honesty. Thank you, most of all, for the incredibly powerful instructional commitments you made after you analyzed the numbers. Making those numbers tell our instructional story is the way we make data driven decisions that matter to kids!
What I'm Currently Reading
I am a firm believer that part of what keeps us current, innovative, and inspired in this career is professional reading. Sometimes it may be a book; sometimes a series of articles. In this monthly newsletter I want to let you know what I'm reading and share something meaningful from it. Let me know what YOU are reading or if you need a suggestion!
Power Quote from this amazing book: “When we recognize that true understanding of a discipline involves learning its processes and ways of thinking as well as its content knowledge, then we naturally create opportunities for developing those abilities.”

An Opportunity...
This year, I am part of a very special cohort of JCPS coaches receiving coaching themselves in improving argument writing. I'm hoping to partner with teachers willing to collaborate using resources from Louisville Writing Project during an argument writing unit. Argument writing can happen in any content. I've heard testimony first hand from principals and coaches in the district who have seen incredible success with these resources and instructional strategies. I am hoping to use this work for my own student growth goal. So, who's willing to give it a try? Let me know!
