Summer Literacy Institute
Middle/High School
August 15, 2019
Many teachers are looking for ways to engage their students while ensuring high instructional rigor. Some of you have already implemented literature circles in classrooms where students are independently conducting rich discussions and thinking critically based on a variety of reading material. Inquiry circles are the next step in this process where students pursue their own questions and perform their own investigations collaboratively based on topics from the curriculum. This means Inquiry Circles can be used in any content area with great success!
Participants in this workshop will:
• Be exposed to the foundation of inquiry circles which are based on current research and practices
• Explore the format and principles of inquiry circles
• Gain an understanding of the different types of inquiry circles
• Learn about collaboration strategies and skills that can be delivered in mini lessons
• Join in the process of an inquiry circle to solidify the methods and understandings of the process.
• Collaborate with peers and ask questions to help with the understanding and implementation of inquiry circles.
We look forward to seeing you on August 15!
This workshop is offered at no additional cost to districts participating in both School Improvement (LS1) and Title 1 Fee For Service Bloomer, Bruce, Colby, Eleva-Strum, Gilman, Gilmanton, Greenwood, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Neillsville, New Auburn, Owen-Withee, and Spencer.
