Rounding Out The School Year

As I sit down to compose my final newsletter of the school year, I have reflected on how blessed we are at St. Damian School. We've had a year full of celebrations with a few heartbreaks along the way. But, our students did thrive this year.

Our IReady Scores showed incredible growth. Our students' scores in reading improved by 30% with 45% of of our students being on or above grade level in September to 74% in May. And, our math scores improved by 40% with 25% students being on or above grade level to 67% in May.

The IReady portal remains open during the summer months, so we encourage your children to continue with their 50 minutes a week. This is a great way to avoid the summer slide.

We also introduced our five root beliefs, which we will continue to integrate into our curriculum in the fall as a means for positive reinforcement. We ask the children to always remember:

Jesus Calls Us By Name.

We Are Created in the Image and Likeness of God.

We Are Better Together.

We Can Do Hard Things.

We Are Always Learning.

Finally, we say good bye to some of our teachers and other faculty this year. Mrs. Kingsbury, Mrs. Tobias and Mrs. Caulfield are retiring while Mr. Vandewiel is moving onto future endeavors. You will continue to see Mr. V as he will teach Religious Ed for our Parish. Mrs. Matthews has also moved on this year.

We celebrate our final school liturgy on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 9 a.m. and invite you to attend. This is a wonderful celebration of the year.

Have a wonderful summer! And, we look forward to seeing you in August.
