Changes in factory work demanded more workers. Since there was barely any pay involved with farm work many people migrated into the cities. Almost over night small and quiet market towns became huge overpopulated cities. The population in 17,000 in the 1750's to 40,000 by 1780 and even more in 1801 with 70,000
Flocks of people migrated into small mining towns from rural areas
Factories polluted the air and water with coal dust
