Two Opportunities for Science Teachers
The New York Geographic Alliance is continuing with watershed education training for teachers of the Susquehanna Region, and in nearby watersheds, too. We are sponsored by a grant from NOAA.
There are two events coming up. We welcome registration from the teachers of your district. The first is a Mapping and Geospatial Workshop at the TST BOCES near Ithaca, NY on April 7th. We will have activities for teachers who want to learn how to use topographic maps and aerial imagery in their classrooms. There will also be computer time to learn about ArcGIS Online and to access great resources from Pictometry, Inc.
This is our second workshop covering this topic. We will offer training for beginners and for teachers who have previous experience. (They will be in separate classrooms). To register, the teachers need to log on to MyLearningPlan. The link is here.
Our second workshop will be on Saturday May 14th at the Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne, NY (Chenango County). This will be an outdoor event. We will work on lessons using our water-testing kits, identification of aquatic life, and other lessons relating to watersheds. We will also hold a mini “BioBlitz” with the goal of identifying as many species of plants and animals as possible. I have attached a flyer for that workshop as well. Teachers can register online from the NYGA Website – http://www.nygeographicalliance.org/node/34
If you or any of the teachers from your district have questions, please email me at tmcdonnell@monroecc.edu or call the NYGA Office at (585)-292-2398.
