Happy New Year!

It is time to gear up for 4-H in 2017! To better keep you informed with the latest 4-H information, we will be sending a weekly 4-H Focus. Watch your inbox for timely updates on 4-H happenings from our office. This will be sent every Friday in addition to the monthly 4-H Focus Newsletter.

4-H Leader Training

Ready for another fun-filled year of 4-H? The York County Extension Staff invites all area 4H volunteers to attend an interactive training to kick-off the 2017 4-H program. This meeting will feature information contained in the new 4-H Policy Handbook. All 4-H volunteers across the state are required to know the details of this policy. Attendance by at least one leader from each club is necessary. All 4-H parents are encouraged to attend as information shared will be helpful in shaping each 4-H member’s plans for the year.

The Monthly 4-H Newsletter is Going Digital!

Starting in February, the York County 4-H Focus newsletter will be sent via email and posted on our website. We will no longer be sending paper copies to every family. If you would still like to receive a paper copy in the mail, click here or call the Extension Office by January 21.

Livestock Updates


  • There is a new plan for Livestock Quality Assurance certification this year. Click the link to find out more: 2017 LQA Certification


  • The Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) will affect all food animals producers across the United States beginning on January 1, 2017. Though much of the information has gotten out to the producers in Nebraska and Nationally, there is still many livestock producers including 4-H and FFA youth livestock participants that are NOT very informed about the FDA Regulations.
  • Nebraska Extension, in partnership with the Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance, has developed a webpage with information and a number of resources for the livestock industry. A lot is geared toward beef cattle however the general information relates to all food producing animals. Below is a direct link to the information.

Let’s Kick-Off a new year of 4-H! All current and potential 4-H members are welcome to attend.

The event will showcase 4-H projects, information on the upcoming year, games and 4-H fun. This year’s theme is Growing True Leaders. All attendees will be invited to participate in multiple mini projects to get a taste of 4-H. There will be balloons, pictures with Lil’ Green, inflatables and much more!
