Walk to School Wednesday - Crossing Guard Appreciation
Thanks to our neighbors at Wake Zone, our walkers will have free hot chocolate available to them at the school map that morning! What a special treat.
Also, Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is in February, so let's use this Walk to School Wednesday as an opportunity to show our love to our dedicated crossing guard at Olive Chapel and Kelly Road, Ms. D! Bring a handmade card or a flower along and share it with Ms. D as you cross the street that morning. Let's make her feel as special as she makes our students feel every day!
Finally, did you know our fourth graders are undertaking a research project for Walk to School Wednesday again this year? Our 4th grade researchers count cars on Walk to School Wednesday mornings and on another non-Walk to School morning in the same week to see what sort of impact walking has on our environment. Last year’s data showed that we averaged 16 fewer cars in carpool on our Walk to School Wednesdays, and we are keeping data again this year to see if we can improve. Be sure to wave to our carpool counters when you see them!
Reminder - neighborhood walking parties depart at 8:30 a.m. and a large group of walkers departs from Kelly Road Park at 8:30 a.m. as well if you'd like to join us! See you on the sidewalks, Clippers!
Wake Zone Spirit Morning
Show the flier below from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. for orders in store or in the drive thru and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Olive Chapel!
That's right - 100%!!
Walk to school with your kids then stop in for a cup of coffee or hit the drive thru on your way to work after carpool. Either way, it's a win-win thanks to our generous Wake Zone neighbors.
Don't forget to print out your flier!!
I Heart Math Parents Night
Are you looking for ways to help your child at home with their math homework?
Would you like to better understand the type of math your child is doing at school?
Or, are you just interested in seeing how math is different among grade levels?
We can help you with those questions! February 13th is our iHeart Math Night. From 5:30-7:00 p.m. OCE will offer multiple grade level sessions to best meet the needs of you and your child.
Please click the iHeart Math Night Sign Up to register for one or two sessions. Child care WILL BE PROVIDED!
View the flier here.
PTA Lunch Fund
If this happens, the cafeteria staff uses the PTA account to ensure the child can still purchase lunch and sends the student home with a note documenting the cost. We ask that you send the amount back in so we can keep the PTA lunch fund full for all our students so no kid goes hungry at lunchtime.
If you need a record of your child's cafeteria purchases, want to set alerts for low balances, or set up auto-pay on your child's MySchool Bucks account, visit this page here.
Reminder, there are also resources to apply for a free or reduced price lunch through WCPSS. Information can be found here.
Finally, if your family could benefit from the OCE Food 4 Kids program to provide food over the weekend, you can contact the OCE social worker, Mr. Cowell, at mcowell@wcpss.net, or your child's teacher.
