SWS News - September 24
WE'VE GOT THIS!!!!!
Our 1st 5-day-week!!!
The kids are doing awesome and looking forward to some fun activities in the near future...see below.
- Pick Up Patrol is up and running! If you have a change in dismissal plans, please use this system! We had an after school program cancel class unexpectedly this past week, that is the perfect situation to go in and make sure we know how your kid is supposed to go home. At this point, we should be at NO MORE NOTES or EMAILS to the Teacher/Office! Thanks!!
- Picture Day went very smoothly, and if your kid missed it (or blinked every time) picture retakes are in early November.
- Our Ice Cream Social will be next week!!! See below for details.
- Pretzel Day info below, too.
- Looking for some fun stuff to do on Oct 2? Scroll all the way down!!
Update on Visitors and Volunteers
Each school uses volunteers differently.
I don't see this changing much of how we do things here at SWS.
Upcoming Events
SWS Ice Cream Social - Order Deadline Extended!
The SWS Ice Cream Social is only a week away - Thursday, September 30, from 6 - 9pm! If you didn't get a chance to send it in with your child today, we have extended the deadline to Monday, September 27! Please note that we are not selling tickets at the door this year to ensure that we purchase enough ice cream! :)
Flyers to order your tickets were sent home. If you need one, here's the IceCreamSocialOrderForm. Please send the form in with your child in an envelope, marked "Ice Cream Social", so that we can keep track of food orders. Once you totaled your order, you can pay by Cash, Check, or Venmo (@StarkweatherPTO)!
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, click the SWSICSSignUp! Thank you in advance for your help!
Pretzel Day Order Form
We hope the kids enjoyed the free pretzels today!
Did your kid(s) love the soft pretzels? That's great because we are offering a package for $6 where your kid(s) can enjoy a Philly Pretzel Factory pretzel for snack on Fridays for the next three months! Pretzel Days are on the following Fridays: Oct 1, 15, 29; Nov 12; and Dec 3, 17.
To ensure we order enough pretzels, orders must be placed in ADVANCE and the deadline is Sept, 28th.
3 ways to place your pretzel order:
1) You can order through our membership site:
https://starkweatherpto.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/163882

- If you still have not registered, email Mrs. MacLeod to get a link. dmacleod@wcasd.net.
- At this point, no more notes or emails--make your changes in Pick Up Patrol.
water bottles...
We are using some 5 gallon refilling stations in the building, along with some cases of water to get us by until our water filling stations can be installed.
Put your kid's name on the bottle, please!
We have ordered water filling stations to be installed...but the issue is that so has every other school in the country, so we are not expecting them any time soon. Way back in the day, parents used to drop off reams of copy paper to help out...we don't need any paper, but whenever you feel like dropping off a few cases of water, they will get used! Thanks!
Breakfast & Lunch-- UPDATES
- Breakfast and lunch will still be provided for free for all children during the upcoming school year.
- All meals will be complete-- a full breakfast and/or a full lunch--there will be no buying a bag of chips or just a milk. If you are sending your child with a lunch, send them with all they will need.
PTO/School Directory Update
Important: Please visit SWSMembershipSite or download the Membership App to include yourself in the SWS directory! You can follow the steps below on how to update your information. All families will need to update their accounts and student information. Once you create/update a PTO Membership Account, you will have access to the published school directory, pay the PTO dues, receive PTO and school-related information, and make payments for other potential upcoming school events.
Here's what you need to do:
- Go to https://starkweatherpto.membershiptoolkit.com/.
- Click on the Register/Login button.
- If you already have an account, use the same email and password to login; Then, proceed to the numbered steps below.
- In you a new to our membership, select "Create Account" and fill in the name, email, and password information.
- Click "verify my email" and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires in 2 hours. If you do not receive the email, check your spam or junk folders.
- Once you have verified your email address, log back in and finish the registration process.
- Complete the Parent/Family and Student Information.
- Complete the Directory/Publish Preferences.
- Once these forms are complete, you will be presented with other forms, such as the PTO Membership payment form.
- To pay your PTO dues online, simply go to the store and add the amount of students to the PTO/Homeroom dues form and then, add to the cart and check out. We thank you for your support!
Once the Primary Account is set up, the Primary User can "invite" other email addresses to access his/her account. This allows the Secondary User to have their own login information, but still have access to the family account.
Any questions or concerns can be directed to Maureen Wilkins at swspto.secretary@gmail.com!
PTO Dues
The Starkweather PTO welcomes you to the 2021-2022 school year! We anticipate that most of our beloved SWS events and activities will be back for this school year but we can't do it without your amazing support!
This year, we are collecting $25 per family NOT per child. Of course you are always welcome to contribute more, any extra dues leftover at the end of the year will go towards our fundraising efforts for a new SWS playground! More information and opportunities to help with this effort will be sent out throughout the year as we begin planning to fundraise!
To make it easy, we offer several ways to pay dues for you to help support Starkweather:
- Online payment will be available through Venmo by sending to @StarkweatherPTO or click our VenmoQR to scan with your phone. Our logo is the wolf; no need to confirm with phone number.
- You can log into our SWSMembershipSite and pay online. *This is also how families can add themselves to our school directory to receive emails, class lists and parent contacts (more information on this in a section below).
- Checks or cash can be sent in with your child once school is in session. Checks should be made out to Starkweather PTO.
DROP OFF & PICK UP Map

DROP OFF Details
- DROP OFF is from 8:30 - 9:00.
- Please notice the green line on the map to use the CAR LOOP to drop off kids for regular arrival.
- Parents who are using ACP for Before School Care should notice the RED dashes on the map and drive around the side of the building. ACP uses the cafeteria and the back playground. If you are later than 8:30 for ACP drop off, use the regular CAR LOOP with the rest of the parents, please.
- Buses are able to transport more kids than last year, so that should help alleviate our large car line from last year (hopefully).
- If you are later than 9:00, please park your car and walk your child to the door to be let in. If it is after 9:10, you will need to sign them in, too. If it is later than 9:00 but the buses are also still emptying, you are able to drop them off on the curb as we will still have staff out front.
PICK UP Details
- We begin our afternoon dismissal at about 3:35 and it is typically over before 3:50.
- Students being picked up in the car line will be called out as their parent pulls in. With nice weather, the kids will be waiting outside on the front playground. (see above)
- We will have a staff member out front making note of the cars as they arrive into the CAR LOOP (notice the green line on the map above)
- If you are in the Car Line, be aware that buses will pass you on the way up the hill. It is ok, we have done this for years...LOOK BOTH WAYS as you enter and exit the Car Loop.

We are now FULLY USING Pick Up Patrol!!!
Exciting news--SWS will now partner with PickUp Patrol to help manage our arrival and dismissal!!
PickUp Patrol is:
- Convenient: Make changes days, weeks, or months in advance.
- Automated: Reduces classroom interruptions and accurately tracks who’s going where.
- Safe and Secure: Student information is protected and the program is administered by our own school staff.
Starkweather will be using these PickUp Patrol features:
- PLAN CHANGES: Previously you may have written a note or made a phone call to the office to let us know about a dismissal change. For example, Katie is getting picked up instead of taking the bus. Now, you’ll use the PickUp Patrol App from your phone or computer to submit changes.
ALL plan changes should be submitted through PickUp Patrol. Please do not send notes, emails or call the school for changes, except in an emergency.
- ATTENDANCE: Report absences, late arrivals and early dismissals.
We are just about ready to send an email with all the information you need to get set up. I will let all families know when that goes out...
As we finalize our subscription with PickUp Patrol, you will receive further information from the office as to your next steps as a parent / household. The PickUp Patrol app will work on any smart phone or computer/tablet and is NOT available in the app store.
(General notes about picking up and dropping off are towards the bottom of this newsletter.)
