MWES News- May Edition
Encouraging Excellence in our Panther Cub Community
Greetings from Ms. Colon
Spring is here! The weather outside is beautiful and our panther cubs are blossoming. It has been amazing to discuss with our teachers how much growth our students have made thus far. This final round will require all of us to be in sync as we support our students in reaching their academic and social goals. I am confident that by working together we will see our panther cubs reach their fullest potential.
This month will give us the opportunity to show appreciation to our teachers. I feel very fortunate to work alongside a staff who is passionate about the work they do and strive to be better for kids every day. Our staff is what makes our school a magical place for kids. Join me in celebrating them the week of May 7-11.
Summer Learning will be hosted at our school this year. It will be an amazing opportunity for our students to remain engaged in learning during the break. Research shows that students that have uninterrupted learning experiences do better when they return back to school.
Thanks for all you do in supporting our students and school community. You are one of the many reasons I consider it a privilege to lead our school.
Proud to be your leader,
Mrs. Colon

Student illness
To prevent the spread of disease and to protect your student, please keep your student home and/or make an appointment with your health care provider for the following symptoms:
- temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- severe sore throat, headache, or cough
- eyes with inflammation, redness, and watery or purulent drainage
- undiagnosed and/or untreated skin rash
- communicable disease
If a student becomes ill during school, the parent/guardian of the student must be contacted before a student is allowed to leave the building. It is important to provide your student's school with updated contact numbers so parents/guardians may be reached concerning illness, as well as emergencies.
STUDENT ABSENCES-CHANGES AHEAD
EARLY CHECKOUT....
Students will not be called out of class until a parent is present to sign them out. Please plan ahead for appointments, as we would like to minimize missed class time.
The law requires meetings for those with chronic absences. http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/prevention/attendance-truancy/index.shtml
