Welcome Back!

We have had a great start to our school year! It is so good to see everyone back at Walter Jackson. I wish to send a special welcome to our kindergarten students and our new students. It is great to be a Walter Jackson Jaguar!

We have lots of new students and teachers. Mrs. Brecher is our new first grade teacher; Mrs. Lovelace is our new reading coach; and Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Jinks are our new resource teachers. We are so glad they are part of our school family. Our third and fourth grade classes will each add another teacher in the next two weeks due to the large number of students.

There are a few changes to the start and end of school. In the morning, please have your children get out of the car themselves. The adults will be there to assist our younger students, but will not open all car doors. We hope this will increase the number of students that exit the car each rotation. Remember that school starts at 7:45 and anyone entering the building after that time will be counted tardy. There are some inclement weather days and bus delays that are not counted as tardy.

As we did last year, students that are car riders will be called by number from the auditorium. We are so thankful that PTA purchased our new car hangtags! Bus riders will gather in the cafeteria to wait on the buses. Walkers will be dismissed at various times depending on the route they take. Thanks for helping us with these procedures.

We look forward to a great school year and if I can ever be of any assistance, please contact me at Rhonda.reece@dcs.edu or 256-552-3031.

In each e-News, the library will spotlight various resources that it offers to students and parents. These resources may be books, reading tips, app suggestions, or instructions on accessing Websites used at school.

Our first spotlight focuses on our library Website. Besides the link, you may also go to www.dcs.edu/wjackson.cfm and click library on the left side.

On our library Website, you will find library policies and a Symbaloo which displays buttons and links to sites that we frequently use. One of the most important for students is Destiny, our library catalog. On Destiny, after you click the catalog tab, students, teachers, and parents can search for books the library owns. There is even a Destiny app that I will describe how to use in a future newsletter.

Stay tuned for more library updates. If you need assistance or have a question about the library please email me at todd.mcdonald@dcs.edu.
