What Should I Be Doing Now?
-Make sure you are getting good grades!!! I cannot stress this enough. When you apply to college in the very early fall of your senior year, the only grades that colleges will have to go on are through the end of 11th grade. That's right - you are being judged on 3 years worth of grades for early admission. There is no time to waste.
-Visit colleges. Yes! There are schools that are still doing in-person visits! You can schedule visits to schools by going to their websites and clicking on their "visit" link. Many schools hold weekly visitations as well as general Open Houses. Don't worry that you don't have a clue what you want to study in college or where you want to go. Simply visit different types of schools to get an idea of what you want and don't want in a college. It is better to visit colleges while they are in session rather than waiting till the summer. You want to get a feel for what the campus and school is like while the students are present. If a school does not offer the option of an in-person visit, the next best thing is doing the virtual tour.
-Attend a virtual college fair! See info below on one coming up in February!
-Try a new club for the second half of the year or look for ways to volunteer in your area safely. You don't want to wait until your senior year to be active in your school and community. Colleges will ask and want to see what you have been involved in over the course of all 4 years of high school.
