Room 26 Weekly News

March 21, 2016

Open House is this Thursday, March 24!! This is my favorite evening of the year! The students are always so proud and excited to show off their amazing work. Classrooms will be open from 6:00-7:00pm. Come early, because food trucks will be open from 5:00-7:00, and the Book Fair and Art Show will be open from 5:30-7:30. I look forward to seeing all of you then!

The Scholastic Book Fair is here! Our class will be visiting the Book Fair during our regular library time on Thursday afternoon. (The Book Fair is also open each morning before school at 8:15.) If you send money with your child for the book fair, please make sure it is in an envelope or plastic baggie labeled clearly with his/her name. Also, as a reminder, sales tax is charged on all Book Fair items.

Spring Break is NEXT WEEK (can you believe it?!) School will be closed March 28-April 1, but will resume on Monday, April 4.

Language Arts

Students will be taking a District Assessment this week. The test will include reading passages with comprehension questions (both fiction and non-fiction texts), as well as a writing prompt.

We finished our Decimals Unit last week. This week during math, we will be working on a fun survey and graphing project using pie charts, pictographs, line plots, and bar graphs. After Spring Break, we will start our Geometry Unit. I have a fun geometry lesson planned after break that will require some parent volunteers. I will send home more information soon, but it will likely be on Friday, April 8 from 11:30-12:50 (this is tentative...) If you know you are free that day and would enjoy coming in to help out, let me know! I will need 6-8 helpers.

Owl Pellets and Science Fair Projects! Your students have done an AMAZING job dissecting their owl pellets! I can't wait for you all to see their work on Thursday! Science Fair projects are due on Tuesday, March 22. Students will present their work to the class and all projects will be on display during Open House and during the school tour on Friday (students get to go visit the other classrooms at school.) As a heads up, your student will be bringing home several projects on Friday before Spring Break!

Social Studies

This week, students are finishing up a short research project about famous people and events associated with the Revolutionary War.
