March 2021 Edition

Principal's Message (and Post-Vaccination Picture)

Hello Parents!

The pace is picking up this spring! Band members are preparing for their music performance assessments, the athletic program is in full swing, and all students will soon take the ACAP (state exam). Please review all communications from the school to stay on top of these events. It's heartening to see our students engage in more activities, and we will continue to prioritize safety and wellness by wearing masks, practicing social distancing, washing hands, and sanitizing/disinfecting our campus.

The Alabama State Department of Education is implementing a new assessment — the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) Summative Assessment — for students in grades 2-8. All grade levels will take assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Additionally, 6th and 8th graders will take an assessment in Science. The US Department of Education (USDOE) requires that each school have at least a 95% participation rate for each subject and grade level tested. No student, including remote learners, shall be excluded from participation in state assessments.

Results from the ACAP Alternate and Summative assessments will be used for accountability purposes and should not be considered baseline assessments. All students will be tested, and results will be used for the school's report card calculations. Parents will be notified of the testing schedule at the beginning of March. The school will contact the parents of remote learners to schedule exam dates. Click the link above for more information about the tests.
