A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
Dear Suffield Family,
Next week marks a special occasion for us—Ohio Public Education Appreciation Week. Being both a public school in Ohio and having once been a student in an Ohio Public School, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for choosing Suffield as your educational haven. In a sea of options for families, your choice to trust Suffield speaks volumes, and we truly appreciate it.
Suffield isn't just a school; it's a unique community filled with extraordinary individuals. The fact that so many families consciously choose Suffield makes it all the more special. We take immense pride in having you as part of our school family.
I also want to express my thanks to all the families who participated in conferences last week. Your engagement is crucial in fostering your child's success at school. If you missed the opportunity, worry not—there's one more chance to connect with your child's teacher. It's a meaningful way to demonstrate to your child just how important their academic journey is to you. If you need help setting up a conference, please email or call the school.
Finally, this is our week to shine in helping others. Please consider supporting our local food shelf with a donation of canned goods, cash, or checks (payable to the Randolph/Suffield Food Shelf). Each dollar is equal to 2 cans donated. The class with the greatest number/student donated will win a pizza party from the PTA. Let's work together to support our community.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Bookman
Principal
Thank you Veterans!
Thanksgiving Dinner At Suffield Elementary
Our wonderful cafeteria staff will be preparing a delicious Thanksgiving Dinner for us on Thursday, November 16th! They will be serving turkey & gravy with a dinner roll, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a pumpkin square as Choice # 1, or a PBJ sandwich with a nutrition bar and string cheese as Choice # 2. The students and staff always look forward to this day! Let's all thank our cafeteria staff for their hard work preparing this awesome Thanksgiving meal!
Canned Goods Drive
Our annual canned goods drive has begun! Each grade level will be tallying the total canned goods collected. The winning grade will get a Pizza Party sponsored by our PTA. Please send in any items until November 17th. We look forward to continuing to support our local Suffield Randolph Food Shelf. If you would prefer to not send in canned goods and would like to contribute cash, each $1 will equal 2 canned goods. Checks can be made payable to the Randolph Suffield Food Shelf or cash will also be accepted. Be sure to include a grade level on the envelope.
A Friendly Reminder: Check the Lost and Found When You Visit Our School!
We're thrilled to welcome you to our school, whether it's for a parent-teacher conference, a special event, or just to spend some time with your child's class. As you explore our wonderful learning environment, we wanted to take a moment to remind you about an important stop you can make while you're here - our Lost and Found!
Our Lost and Found is a treasure trove of forgotten items, from jackets and lunch boxes to water bottles and notebooks. Sometimes, the smallest and most valuable items end up there, waiting to be reunited with their owners. We encourage you to check the Lost and Found area located near the gym while you're visiting.
We also recommend labeling your child's items with their name and contact information to make it easier for us to return lost items promptly.

Help students Stay warm and toasty at recess
As the temperature drops and winter approaches, we want to ensure our students have a comfortable and enjoyable recess experience. That's why we're launching our 'Warm Hands, Happy Hearts' campaign. We're asking for donations of gloves or mittens to help keep all our students toasty and warm during recess.
With these gloves, our students can stay active, play games, and make the most of their outdoor time without worrying about chilly fingers. It's all part of our commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for everyone.
Join us in spreading the warmth and joy! Let's make this winter season unforgettable for our students! Together, we can ensure that our students have a fantastic recess season.

Birthday Treats
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
Counselor's Corner - a note from Miss Livers
Promoting and Developing Growth Mindset
The concept of a growth mindset was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck. Individuals with a growth mindset believe they can improve at a task by dedicating their time, effort, or energy.
Developing a growth mindset can help children become more confident, resilient, empowered, and not afraid to fail or make mistakes. Practicing and incorporating a growth mindset can help students change the way they think, feel, and talk about their abilities. When providing your child with praise, acknowledge their effort, progress, and persistence to the given task. You can also highlight their ability to learn from past mistakes and rising to the challenge.
Growth Mindset Examples:
"It's too hard"
Growth mindset: "I'll keep trying"
"I can't do that"
Growth mindset: "How can I get better at that"
"I give up"
Growth mindset: "I will keep working"
"I'm a failure"
Growth mindset: "I can learn from my mistakes"
Growth Mindset questions to ask your child
What did you do today that made you think hard?
What new strategies did you try?
What mistakes did you make that taught you something?
What did you try today that was hard?
