I only read middle school titles this past summer. However, I recently read Still Alice by Lisa Genova and really enjoyed it. It can be found here. http://www.amazon.com/Still-Alice-Lisa-Genova/dp/1439102813/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409157364&sr=8-1&keywords=still+alice+lisa+genova

Over the summer I read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian which was a funny & heart breaking tale of a young Native American boy in his teenage years struggling to fit in with "white society". I also finished the Divergent series with the reading of Allegiant. I am currently reading The Book Thief, but truth be told, I'm having a difficult time getting into it...anyone else??

I spent most of the summer reading The Game of Thrones series. For those who like the show, the books are long but provide a lot of clarity!
I also read a debut novel by Hannah Kent called "Burial Rites" . It's a fictionalization of the last execution performed in Iceland. The main character, Agnes, is sent to an isolated farm to await her execution. The story of her interaction with the family who owns the farm and a priest who is chosen to be her spiritual guide is told in beautifully, simple, lyrical language.
