About Mrs. Zarabi

I'm excited to be at Chatham Middle School and I am looking forward to working with everyone. I have been a librarian for over 15 years and have worked in many different types of libraries. Being a school librarian is the best fit for me. I love working with the students.

A big part of what I do is supporting teachers. I'm here to help you! Please don't hesitate to ask me for any assistance with locating resources for your classes.

About Mrs. Chirico

I am incredibly excited to begin my new journey in the library! This is my 10th September at CMS, and I couldn't be happier about my new home. I have to admit, it was a bit strange coming back and not having my own classroom, but I am looking forward to this new experience.

Please come down and visit me in the library and I'd love to be a part of your classroom lessons! Looking forward to a great year!

Book Fair

The book fair will be held from September 15-19. We will make arrangements for all students to have an opportunity to browse and purchase. The fair will also be available during Back to School Night.

Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week is September 21-27. This is a great opportunity to celebrate and remind your students that they have a wonderful gift: freedom to read!

Here is a link to frequently challenged books. Students will be surprised at some of the titles on this list. It could stir up some great conversations about why certain books are on this list and what would happen if these books were never read.

Resource of the Month

Our new technology supervisor, Danielle Romero, recommended this website. It has current news articles and also includes lexile reading levels. You can also search for articles with a specific reading level to limit to articles that would be appropriate for your students.

Worldbook Online

Worldbook online has educator tools that can help gather materials necessary to fulfill the NJ Content Standards. This link will take you to the right page.

Once there, choose the grade level and subject matter and this will bring up all the standards. Links will take you to material that will fulfill that standard.

If you need help with this feature, please let us know.

Book Recommendations

We welcome any teachers to send us a quick email about a book or resource that they recently read and would like to share with the rest of the staff. We will include this in our Media Matters flyer.

I only read middle school titles this past summer. However, I recently read Still Alice by Lisa Genova and really enjoyed it. It can be found here.

Over the summer I read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian which was a funny & heart breaking tale of a young Native American boy in his teenage years struggling to fit in with "white society". I also finished the Divergent series with the reading of Allegiant. I am currently reading The Book Thief, but truth be told, I'm having a difficult time getting into it...anyone else??

I spent most of the summer reading The Game of Thrones series. For those who like the show, the books are long but provide a lot of clarity!

I also read a debut novel by Hannah Kent called "Burial Rites" . It's a fictionalization of the last execution performed in Iceland. The main character, Agnes, is sent to an isolated farm to await her execution. The story of her interaction with the family who owns the farm and a priest who is chosen to be her spiritual guide is told in beautifully, simple, lyrical language.
