Rocket Register
April 2017
Principal's Message
With all of the special events ahead, I hope to see you around Robison. Thank you for all that you do to support your child and our staff. Thank you for helping our students to finish strong!
KINDERGARTEN & PRE-K REGISTRATION FOR 2017-2018
I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for your support with helping to get the word out to our community about some upcoming events this spring. On April 11, we will hold our pre-registration for Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. It is so important that students are pre-registered so that we will be able to hire an accurate number of staff members to secure appropriate class sizes. We are also inviting all 2017-2018 pre-k and kindergarten students to a special event, Rocket Round-Up, on Friday, May 5 at 9:00 am. Our future students will have the opportunity to tour the school, listen to a story read by our amazing librarian, Mrs. Daniell, experience a fantastic puppet show about the school bus, and experience going through the cafeteria line to receive a cookie with milk. We will publicize this in community newsletters, but your help will be greatly appreciated. We will also hold a parent meeting with the parents while the children are experiencing all of these fun activities.
Field Days
We hope you are able to come cheer on your student next week at Field Day! If your child purchased a t-shirt, they will bring their shirt home today. If you did not purchase a shirt for your child, they may just wear a shirt that matches their team color.

SPECIAL INVITATION FROM CFISD POLICE DEPARTMENT & CFISD ADMINISTRATORS
IMPORTANT NEWS FROM OUR REGISTRAR REGARDING ATTENDANCE
Here is some helpful information from our attendance secretary (registrar), Angela Johnson.
Students are required to provide a note from a parent or guardian for each absence within 3 days from the date of the absence or consecutive absences. This note is to include student’s name and grade, reason for absence, telephone number of parent or guardian and signature of parent or guardian.
Warning Notices/Parent Notification letters
If a student is absent from school three days or parts of days in a four week period without parental consent, the state of Texas requires school districts to notify parents. So if a student is out for three days and a note is not sent in to school, within 3 days, this is considered “without parental consent” and a court warning letter will be generated and sent home.
The state of Texas requires school districts to notify a student’s parent or legal guardian in writing if the student is absent from school 10 or more days or parts of days within a six month period in the same school year.
Please always send in doctor notes if your child has been to the doctor.
Lastly, letters are sent home after 10 absences have occurred. Even if all the absences are excused, a letter will be mailed out to as courtesy to let you know your student is nearing the 17 absence max. Students are required to attend 90% of the time in order to receive credit for the class.

PTO NEWS
NOTE FROM PTO PRESIDENT, KAREN FINKE
NOTE FROM PTO PRESIDENT, KAREN FINKE
It is hard to believe that our last day of the 2016-2017 school year is fast approaching on May 25. We still have many fun events ahead of us, such as Field Days, Inventors Day, Kindergarten and Second grade programs, and of course our End of Year Celebrations for 5th grade May 22 and PreK-4th grades on May 25. As we end this school year, we are already making plans for next school year. We have some open PTO Board Positions for 2017-2018: Primary Fundraising, Secondary Fundraising, Membership, Special Events, Public Information, and Treasurer. Included in this newsletter are descriptions for each of these positions and an application. I ask that you consider a leadership role for next year. Applications are also available at our check in kiosk in the front entrance to the school. Applications may be returned to school in an envelope marked “Nominating Committee”, or scanned and emailed to Robisonrocketspto@gmail.com We continue to have great parental support for our PTO efforts to bring so many extra events to our students that they would otherwise not receive. Having a full complement of Board members allows us to do this more efficiently. We also will have some chairperson positions open for 2017-2018. These include Junior Achievement, Staff Appreciation/Hospitality, Box Tops, and Vision/Hearing Screening volunteer sign up genius. If you have any questions regarding these open positions, please contact Karen Finke karenfinke@comcast.net
5th Grade End of Year Party
On Monday, May 22, our Robison 5th graders will have their End-of-Year Party! There will be inflatables, Minute to Win It games, a DJ, prizes and more! Lunch will also be served to our students. We will need volunteers to help with this all-day event, and we are also asking for donations as well. A Sign-up Genius link is below and available on the Robison PTO Facebook page. Please contact Bernadette Salvador or Amber Wade if you have any questions at bsal321@att.net or amberpalermo@gmail.com.
Field Days
Robison students will participate in Field Day next week. If you purchased a Field Day t-shirt from the school, it will be delivered to your child at school. Each class has a team name and color. If you didn't purchase a Field Day t-shirt, your child can still participate in the team spirit by wearing a colored shirt that corresponds with the class color choice. All students will participate in fun relays and events. This is definitely one of the most fun days of the school year.
Each homeroom is responsible for providing Gatorade and water for each child. 1-2 volunteer helpers are requested to keep kiddos ready for their relay and to take children to the bathroom as needed. We also need help setting up and taking down the shade canopies at the event location. If you are able to help with this or are able to donate needed items for your homeroom class, please contact your Homeroom Coordinator. If you do not know who your Homeroom Coordinator is, please contact Viki Young at viki.young@hotmail.com.

Learning Garden
CALLING ALL GARDEN VOLUNTEERS!
The Robison learning garden needs your help. We are looking for volunteers to help keep the garden maintained throughout the school year. No experience necessary. If you're not a green thumb, no worries!
We need help watering and weeding the garden throughout the year. Just 10-15 minutes of your time is requested. Perhaps you wait in the car rider line each day...this is a perfect opportunity to get out of your car and tend to the garden. Have a few extra minutes before meeting your child for lunch? Consider pulling a few weeds while you wait. Any length of time you can spare is so appreciated.
To sign up to help water the garden, please use the following sign up link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4ea8ad28a2f85-beagarden
To sign up to help weed the garden, please use the following sign up link:

JA provides the training and all the materials needed to teach the class. If you interested in teaching JA, please sign up through your child’s Homeroom Coordinator. Moreover, if you have not attended JA training, please contact Allyne Zacarias, District JA Director, at azacarias@jahouston.org or 713-682-4500 Ext. 243 to enroll in training on the following date:
