Rocket Register

April 2017

Principal's Message

This school year is certainly flying by, and it is exciting to see the many ways that our students are showcasing their learning. Please take a moment to look over the calendar section to be sure you have some very important dates marked on your calendar. Please make note that the last day for lunch visitors and WATCH D.O.G.S will be Friday, May 19. If you were hoping to get that special visit in before the year runs out, there is still time. The link to volunteer is below in the WATCH D.O.G.S. section.

With all of the special events ahead, I hope to see you around Robison. Thank you for all that you do to support your child and our staff. Thank you for helping our students to finish strong!

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for your support with helping to get the word out to our community about some upcoming events this spring. On April 11, we will hold our pre-registration for Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. It is so important that students are pre-registered so that we will be able to hire an accurate number of staff members to secure appropriate class sizes. We are also inviting all 2017-2018 pre-k and kindergarten students to a special event, Rocket Round-Up, on Friday, May 5 at 9:00 am. Our future students will have the opportunity to tour the school, listen to a story read by our amazing librarian, Mrs. Daniell, experience a fantastic puppet show about the school bus, and experience going through the cafeteria line to receive a cookie with milk. We will publicize this in community newsletters, but your help will be greatly appreciated. We will also hold a parent meeting with the parents while the children are experiencing all of these fun activities.

PM Field Day Time is 12:30 to 3:00

Teacher Assignments for 2017-2018

As we plan for next year, please know that careful consideration will be given to each student’s placement. Your child’s current teachers and the assistant principals will work together using their knowledge of your child’s learning style, personality, and academic strengths or concerns to make the best classroom assignment for next year. If you have information about your child that you feel needs to be strongly considered, please email both assistant principals AND courtney.nespeca@cfisd no later than Friday, April 28. Information that is considered to be helpful includes information about your child’s learning style and/or personality, as well as your concerns with meeting their academic, emotional or social needs. Please refrain from asking for your child to be assigned to a particular teacher, as teaching assignments have not been finalized for next year. Please trust that we know our staff well, so the information described above is what helps us to match your child in the best way possible. If there are specific qualities in a teacher that have proven to be successful for your child, please include that information as well. We take this responsibility very seriously, and we appreciate your trust in our judgment. Teacher assignments will be mailed in August, prior to our Meet the Teacher event.

School supply packets will be available for purchase on-line at:

The code should be available next week. Our school code is: ROB097 (the first three are letters, the last three are numbers)

The window for ordering will be open later this week through July 15! Be sure to order your child’s supplies for NEXT year’s grade level. Extra packets will not be ordered.

We Appreciate Our Staff!

On Monday, March 27, we kicked off Staff Appreciation. Each Monday in April we are continuing to celebrate the amazing Robison Staff by "flying" to different places. Our first visit was to Mexico, and a few pictures from that day are attached. On April 3, our staff was treated to a Hawaiian luau, courtesy of our PTO! Our future stops include Greece, China, and a round-trip ticket back to Cypress!

Here is some helpful information from our attendance secretary (registrar), Angela Johnson.

Students are required to provide a note from a parent or guardian for each absence within 3 days from the date of the absence or consecutive absences. This note is to include student’s name and grade, reason for absence, telephone number of parent or guardian and signature of parent or guardian.

Warning Notices/Parent Notification letters

If a student is absent from school three days or parts of days in a four week period without parental consent, the state of Texas requires school districts to notify parents. So if a student is out for three days and a note is not sent in to school, within 3 days, this is considered “without parental consent” and a court warning letter will be generated and sent home.

The state of Texas requires school districts to notify a student’s parent or legal guardian in writing if the student is absent from school 10 or more days or parts of days within a six month period in the same school year.

Please always send in doctor notes if your child has been to the doctor.

Lastly, letters are sent home after 10 absences have occurred. Even if all the absences are excused, a letter will be mailed out to as courtesy to let you know your student is nearing the 17 absence max. Students are required to attend 90% of the time in order to receive credit for the class.

STAAR Testing

Please mark your calendars for these very important dates. We are unable to accommodate visitors on STAAR testing days.

It is hard to believe that our last day of the 2016-2017 school year is fast approaching on May 25. We still have many fun events ahead of us, such as Field Days, Inventors Day, Kindergarten and Second grade programs, and of course our End of Year Celebrations for 5th grade May 22 and PreK-4th grades on May 25. As we end this school year, we are already making plans for next school year. We have some open PTO Board Positions for 2017-2018: Primary Fundraising, Secondary Fundraising, Membership, Special Events, Public Information, and Treasurer. Included in this newsletter are descriptions for each of these positions and an application. I ask that you consider a leadership role for next year. Applications are also available at our check in kiosk in the front entrance to the school. Applications may be returned to school in an envelope marked “Nominating Committee”, or scanned and emailed to We continue to have great parental support for our PTO efforts to bring so many extra events to our students that they would otherwise not receive. Having a full complement of Board members allows us to do this more efficiently. We also will have some chairperson positions open for 2017-2018. These include Junior Achievement, Staff Appreciation/Hospitality, Box Tops, and Vision/Hearing Screening volunteer sign up genius. If you have any questions regarding these open positions, please contact Karen Finke

Field Days

Robison students will participate in Field Day next week. If you purchased a Field Day t-shirt from the school, it will be delivered to your child at school. Each class has a team name and color. If you didn't purchase a Field Day t-shirt, your child can still participate in the team spirit by wearing a colored shirt that corresponds with the class color choice. All students will participate in fun relays and events. This is definitely one of the most fun days of the school year.

Each homeroom is responsible for providing Gatorade and water for each child. 1-2 volunteer helpers are requested to keep kiddos ready for their relay and to take children to the bathroom as needed. We also need help setting up and taking down the shade canopies at the event location. If you are able to help with this or are able to donate needed items for your homeroom class, please contact your Homeroom Coordinator. If you do not know who your Homeroom Coordinator is, please contact Viki Young at

Learning Garden

The Robison learning garden needs your help. We are looking for volunteers to help keep the garden maintained throughout the school year. No experience necessary. If you're not a green thumb, no worries!

We need help watering and weeding the garden throughout the year. Just 10-15 minutes of your time is requested. Perhaps you wait in the car rider line each day...this is a perfect opportunity to get out of your car and tend to the garden. Have a few extra minutes before meeting your child for lunch? Consider pulling a few weeds while you wait. Any length of time you can spare is so appreciated.

To sign up to help water the garden, please use the following sign up link:

To sign up to help weed the garden, please use the following sign up link:

Please direct questions about the learning garden to Shannon Bahr at
