Piney Point families!
Our Piney Point Beacons Boosterthon fundraiser will kick off is coming soon - May 10. Our goal is to raise $14,000 for materials of instruction (Media and classroom books) and to strengthen our school community. We are also working on approval of a traverse climbing wall for our school gymnasium. We’ve asked our friends at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it more profitable, fun, and easy for everyone!
Here’s what all students can get excited about:
Fun, engaging character development lessons
A high-energy event to give our school a much-needed boost of fun!
If your family feels it’s not in the position to financially support the school, that’s ok. Families can actually support our school by also SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and family online. Sharing IS supporting.

Piney Point Families,
During the month of May, our students will be learning about the character trait, EMPATHY. They are learning that empathy means:
- Caring
- Recognizing feelings
- Trying to understand how other's feel
Checkout my newsletter on empathy for additional resources. My Bitmoji page is also a resource for you as well.

Math Ideas at Home
Hello Piney Point families! Can you believe spring is finally here! For this month, we are going to keep celebrating spring with some outdoor math activities! Take a look at the lists below to check out some of the activities:
Primary (K-2) -
Did you know that Hopscotch has been around for over 3000 years? Hopscotch can be a great way to help your student practice counting! Have your student create a Hopscotch board using sidewalk chalk. While they are hopping, have them practice counting the numbers out loud. Check out the Hopscotch board image below!
Want to extend their learning? Have them skip count by 2s, 5,s 10s, or whatever math fact they are currently working on!
Feeling a little adventurous and want to have a little fun with water balloons? Fill and label water balloons numbered 1 through 20 (or whatever numbers you’re working on). Draw the numbers in a big circle using sidewalk chalk. Then have your student choose a balloon, find the matching number, and head off to make a splash! Check out the water splash image below for some ideas!
Everyone likes to hop! Get outside and have your student practice hopping like a frog, leaping like a gazelle, or jumping like a kangaroo. Have them count how many hops, leaps, or jumps they can make before they get too tired!
Don’t forget to take a picture of you and your student on the nature walk! Email your picture to jnwells@smcps.org
Intermediate (3-5) -
Create a colorful math facts garden using sidewalk chalk! For this activity, have your student draw a basic flower with 10 numbered petals, as shown. Then they write a number to multiply (or add or subtract) by in the middle and fill in the petals with the correct answers. Check out the flower image below for some ideas!
Practice telling time using a clock made with sidewalk chalk! Draw a giant clock face with hours and minutes on the playground with sidewalk chalk. You and your student can take turns being the hour and minute hands, then call out a time and send them out to become the clock.
Looking for a way to extend your student’s learning? Add more complicated elements by having them add to or subtract from the initial time too. (“Now it’s 23 minutes later!”)
Like to paint? Painted rocks are still a big hit! Have your student paint rocks with numbers and different operations on each rock. Then, hide them around the yard and send your student off to find and answer equations. Check out the painted rock picture below for some ideas!
Don’t forget to take a picture of you and your student on the nature walk! Email your picture to jnwells@smcps.org
