Rockin' Through the School Year!

1.21.22

Hello Oakland Families,

We hope that you are staying warm this cold winter. Please remember to send your child with appropriate winter gear. When we are able, we get them outside as much as possible.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Great Kindness Challenge

Next week is the Great Kindness Challenge sponsored by our Oakland Student Council. We will be focusing on showing kindness in all that we say and do! Students have lots of suggestions for what they can do to be kind at school.

We challenge you to come up with a Home Edition of Kind Acts!

Kindness always matters - and even a little bit makes the world a brighter place.

Friendship Grams

Student Council is sponsoring the sale of Friendship Grams! You will be receiving hard copies of the pictures below next week. Students will have the ability to send Friendship Grams to others at school. Orders are due by February 4th. If you have any questions about this once you receive the hard copies next week, please reach out to Mrs. Higginbotham or Mrs. Verner.

Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day approaching, here are a few informational items for you:

  • There will be no candy or food items that are allowed to be passed out, so students should not bring them in
  • There will not be a classroom party - but there will be time set aside for passing out Valentines should a student choose to bring them
  • If students are bringing Valentines, there should be enough for each child in their classroom
  • If you have any questions, please let your child's teacher know

Reminders & District Level News

Notes from the Nurse

Attention Kindergarten and Second Grade Families:

If you haven't already turned it in, dental exam forms are due by May 15th per the state mandate.

Warm Clothes

Please make sure that your child has a coat, gloves, and hat with these cooler temperatures. We will still be having students go outside when the weather is clear.

It is recommended that you put your child's name in their outerwear so it is easy to return items when they are left behind.

Extra Masks

Please be sure to send your child with an extra mask or two in their backpacks. It is nice to have a spare for them, especially for the disposable ones where the strings can break easily. We do not have disposable masks to provide to students any longer. Thank you for your help!

Lunch Menus

January

Please note that the listed items are subject to change. As soon as any changes are made, teachers will communicate that to the students. (There are changes to next week's menu)

Gordon Food Service is having supply chain issues and the menu is subject to change based on availability. A main menu is posted on the Food Service Page and on each school’s website. There is a weekly update on each school’s website every Friday to show what is on the menu for the following week.

Google Meet

  • Staff and students will be receiving training on Google meet during the month of January. As of January 31st, Antioch CCSD 34 will not be using Zoom for any quarantine students or e-learning days.

Quarantined Students

  • All quarantined students will have the Zoom app pushed out to their iPad once they are identified by each building nurse. Please be patient with this process, as it may take up to 24 hours for this app to get sent to the student’s iPads. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
