Romeo & Juliet

Friar Laurence is responsible

Friar Laurence is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The reasoning for this is because Friar Laurence was the one who made them husband and wife. “Come, come with me, and we will make short work; For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till holy church incorporate two in one.” (Act: 2 Scene: VI). This is significant to my quote because it is showing how Friar Laurence contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The other reasoning is because Friar Laurence also wanted Juliet to fake her death so Romeo would come back and she wouldn’t have to marry Paris “If, rather than to marry County Paris, Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, Then is it likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to chide away this shame…”(Act: IV Scene: I). This quote shows that Friar Laurence did what he could to keep Romeo and Juliet and not have her marry Paris. So Juliet stayed with romeo and when romeo came back to see if she was actually dead, and when he went to the tomb he saw her laying there supposedly dead. Therefore romeo poisoned himself because he thought Juliet was dead.

The movie I chose that resembles that Friar Laurence was the cause of both Romeo and Juliets death is, Oculus because of the fact that it shows resemblance to Friar Laurence being responsible. The movie is about a mirror that is responsible for the deaths of a girls family. This shows that Friar Laurence and the mirror are alike because they are both responsible for the death of family and friends.

The song i chose to represent friar Laurence being responsible is, "Sorrow" by Bad Religion. This song resembles Friar Laurence because it shows how a friar/priest can mess up and ask God what they did wrong. "Father can you hear me? How have I let you down? I curse the day that I was born and all the sorrow in this world." (Bad Religion). These song quotes show that Friar Laurence and the song are very alike because of what he did and is asking God for help with what he did.
