A Word From Mrs. Loor
Dear Franklin Families,
We are fully into the swing of school. Students have been working hard on completing their first writing pieces, have taken their first math topic tests and cycled through their first STEAM sessions. We work hard and we play hard. We have been reinforcing that recess should be a fun time for all and that we always say "YES!" when others ask to play with us. Please continue to reinforce our 3 school rules: We take care of ourselves, we take care of each other and we take care of this place.
If you haven't already, please read this letter regarding Halloween carefully and fill out the Google Form in the letter. It contains important information that you need to know before our Halloween parade which will take place on Monday, October 31st.
Lastly, I'd like to reiterate the importance of safety and adherence to the general procedures during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Here are our guidelines for your reference again. As a request, parents/guardians of our 1st and 2nd graders... please leave the middle walkway open so that the teachers can bring their classes all the way out. You may stand on the grass or the sidewalk. For safety reasons, teachers must be able to see and hand off your children to their designated guardians.
Thank you!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Counselor's Corner
Have you asked your children, "How was school today?" and the answer is "It was fine" or "It was good" with no additional details? Try these questions instead to get your child talking about their school day.
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Mrs. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.
FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE
Unfortunately our county’s COVID Community Level has increased from green to yellow. During periods of low community transmission (green), students and staff with COVID-19 compatible symptoms are not required to obtain a COVID test when returning to school.
During medium and high (yellow and orange) community levels, students and staff who have two or more symptoms from category A, or at least one symptom from category B, must present a negative COVID test in order to return to school.
A: At least two of the following symptoms: fever (measure or subjective), chills, rigors (shivers), myalgia (muscle aches), headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion or runny nose;
OR
B: At least one of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of smell, or new loss of taste.
Exclusion for illness applies to both unvaccinated AND vaccinated individuals. A negative rapid (including home tests) or PCR COVID test is acceptable for returning to school. An alternate diagnosis (including a positive strep test or influenza swab) without a negative COVID-19 test is not acceptable for ill individuals who meet COVID-19 exclusion criteria to return to school during periods of medium, high or very high community transmission.
Individuals with COVID-19 compatible symptoms who do not wish to test must remain home until at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset.
For health-related questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Zanelli, our school nurse. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us.
On the Same Page: library news from Mrs. Mills
It has been an amazing start to a new school year here in the library. In addition to getting to know the students, we are reading books to help us know more about each other and the community around us. In connection with Week of Respect and Digital Citizenship Week, we have been talking about our place in our local community and also in the global community. Mrs. Bagley and I have been so impressed and uplifted by the thoughtfulness of our conversations.
I have also been impressed and uplifted by the number of students who have chosen to participate in the Kindness Crew! I do believe it is a record breaker! I am so appreciative for the support of third grade teacher, Mrs. Alfone, who will be leading the group with me. Together we are looking forward to a wonderful year of community outreach.
To respect all of the students who have enrolled, we have made some changes to the way Kindness Crew will operate. We will NO LONGER meet in the morning. Going forward, Kindness Crew will meet during recess time on Wednesdays. Students will be assigned to smaller working groups based on their interests. We will communicate with students through the Google classroom, and grown ups are welcome to view all of the information shared there.
Thank you again to our Falcon Families for your support!
