Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
December 14, 2018
A Super Week!
It was another very busy and jam-packed week in Room 9. We are finishing up many projects, securing our skills as we end units of study, and working on giving our best listening and focus as we persevere to finish the semester!
This week we had a discussion about ORGANIZATION and how being organized (desk, book boxes, backpacks, cubbies, etc...) helps in all areas of school. One day after school I peeked in several desks and...WHOA! There were more unorganized desks than organized ones. I showed pictures of what organized desks look like and we all made a commitment second semester to work more diligently at keeping our desks and personal space neat and organized.
Congratulations to the following students who accepted and conquered last weekend's READ 90 Challenge!
- Cort
- Cam
- Leah
- Makenna
- Logan
- Landon
- Miles
When we return from Winter Break, we will present another 3rd Grade Reading Challenge. With this challenge, students will be randomly partnered with another 3rd Grader. The purpose of partnering students is to give students an accountability partner to help encourage and support! This is an optional reading challenge, but when the teachers present it to the students, we STRONGLY encourage everyone to participate. More information about this reading challenge will come home after Winter Break!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Greene
Community Circle
A few highlights from our morning Community Circle time: 8:15-8:30 am daily!
- MUSICAL CONVERSATIONS: We practiced having conversations with students that we don't normally spend one-on-one time talking to. Here's how we did that: I played our class song and as the song was playing, students were walking around greeting each other. When the music stopped, students were to pair up with the person they were standing next to and have a short conversation. Greeting, questions, responses, eye-contact, and a conclusion to the conversation. We had to stop several times to address correct ways to have a conversation. This type of social practice is so fun for me to watch. Some kids are natural at it, and some kids struggle through awkwardness. The good news is that we are all getting better at it and I am starting to see the students using the skills they are learning outside the walls of Room 9!

Next week the Third Grade Teachers will have a Countdown to Winter Break for our students. Each day one student will unwrap a "gift" for the class. The gifts are activities that will happen at school. It's a way to add some more fun into the CRAZY week!
