Second Grade

Polkadot Classroom

Welcome Back to School!

Hi Parents! I can't wait to see your child on the first day of school! It is going to be a fabulous year. Please remind your child to bring their "All About Me" on the first week as we will be sharing these throughout the week.

First Week of School

Social Studies

This week we will be working on creating a social contract. These are the rules that we agree to follow during the school day throughout the year. We will do team-building activities to get to know each other better, and learn about S.M.A.R.T. expectations. We will also learn what big problems are and what little problems are and strategies for solving conflicts that may arise.

Other Important Information

Snacks - Please feel free to send your child with a snack. We will eat snack at 10:00 a.m. each day. Our class is a Peanut-Free Zone, so please do not pack any snacks for your child that contain nuts. Should your child have a snack that contains nuts, he/she may receive an alternative snack. A list of snack ideas is available on my website.

Class Schedule - Our class schedule is posted on my website. Some of you have asked about our lunch times. We will eat lunch at 11:41 a.m. You are welcome to have lunch with your child. After signing in at the front office, parents can wait in the cafeteria for our class.

Homework: Your child will not receive homework the first few weeks of school. We will talk more about homework during Parent-Orientation Night (TBA). However, if you want to get your child into the routine of doing homework each night, the daily homework will be to read 15 minutes. Your child can record their reading on the Reading Log in their blue Home Folder. Please be sure to check and empty this folder each night. We will be sending a lot of school-related information home through this folder.

Home Transportation: If the way your child goes home changes, you must call the front office at 512-464-6794 and let them know as soon as possible or send me an email letting me know. Otherwise, your child will be sent home the way that was specified on the Home Transportation form. We cannot legally send your child home a different way without your written or verbal consent--this is for your child's safety.

Contacting Me: The best way to contact me is by email. When I am teaching, I cannot always get to the phone. I check my email throughout the day and will respond back as soon as I can. My email is listed below.

Polkadot Class Website: Each week I will update my website with information about what we are learning in class, school-related information you should know, assessments that are coming up, and how you can support your child at home. It will be available on my website under the Class Happenings tab. I encourage you to visit my site weekly for updates and to stay abreast of your child's learning.

I look forward to working with you this year to support your child's learning. It is going to be a great year!

Please let me know if you have any questions.
