Hillside Family Newsletter
I June 2017 I
Principal's Corner
Dear Hillside Families,
Wow. What a momentous year it has been. Being new to Northville this year, it has been a pleasure to get to know students, parents, and staff over these last few months. Students have shown themselves to be thoughtful, dedicated, and polite beyond what I thought possible for middle school students. Watching them this year in the classrooms, on the fields of play, and in the auditorium as they perform has been a pleasure. Their myriad achievements are the direct result of the standard of excellence set by their parents and the Northville community. Throughout the year, parents have always been willing to partner with the staff at Hillside to meet the needs of our students and that partnership is crucial to our success. Whether through formal chaperoning and volunteering, through conversations about student performance in the classroom, or 7:15am drop-offs so students could meet with teachers to reassess and show more learning, parent support is integral to what we are able to accomplish here. In short, we couldn’t do it without you.
Finally, the teachers, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, and everyone who interacts with children on a daily basis have made it possible for us to maintain the supportive, welcoming environment for which we strive. They embrace change, take risks, lead their colleagues, pull extra weight, and generally do whatever they have to do to reach a child. As I prepared to write this final update, I learned of a teacher who used their lunch break to go to Subway and buy six made-to-student-preference meals for students who had met their classroom goals. That’s a Hillside staff member, and I am so proud to call myself one of them.
Have a safe and restful summer break, and I cannot wait to see what next year holds as we learn, lead, and take risks together.

We have some students that ride the bus and do not have return transportation to Hillside at the time of the returns. Bus riders will need to come down during 7th Hour and turn their instruments in at that time.
It should only take 5-10 minutes and students will return to class.
These students will get a pass from me giving them permission to come down during 7th Hour. No pass, no trip out of class per Mr. Lanzi.
