IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR NEXT WEEK!
Next week, all ACSC students will have an e-Learning day on Tuesday, November 10. This day has two valuable purposes. First, all students will have the opportunity to access online learning materials and become familiar with virtual learning procedures for this school year. Should inclement weather or other circumstances bring about the need for virtual learning, students and staff will be prepared and experienced with the procedures. Secondly, all staff will be participaing in valuable professional development activites throughout the day. Please know that you will receive virtual learning instructions via Parent Square prior to Tuesday so that you are prepared and know what to do. Teachers and school staff will be available to assist during set office hours throughout the day.
Another reminder that Wednesday, November 11 is a One Hour Delay Day.
We appreciate your partnership to make these valuable professional learning opportunities possible for our staff.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kingery
Habits to Home
The current focus habit at River Birch is Habit 4, Think Win-Win. Habit 4 teaches us to have a win-win attitude. However, when a solution that benefits both people cannot be reached, “no deal” is often the best option. With “no deal,” we agree to disagree politely. Keep reading for ways to help your child understand what it means to have a win-win attitude.
When you try to find a solution to problems with friends or family, you have choices:
- Win-lose means, “I don’t care if you lose as long as I win.”
- Lose-lose means, “If I’m going down, I’m taking you with me.”
- Lose-win means, “Walk all over me, everyone else does.”
- Win-win means, “Let’s find a solution that works for both of us.”
- No deal means, “We agree to disagree.”

A Few Reminders From the Clinic
Over the Counter Medications
Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Tums are available in the clinic. These can be given at the discretion of the school nurse to any student who has permission. Any additional over-the-counter medications (including cough drops) will be kept in the clinic and need to be supplied by the parent. All over-the-counter permission is provided via CareDox or written request from parent/guardian. All medication must be in the original unopened container and will be given according to the directions on the bottle and dosage needs that are appropriate for the age and weight of the student. If the dosage exceeds recommendations, permission must be granted from a primary care provider. All medications administered at school must be approved by the FDA, no homeopathic or herbal medications will be administered. Over-the-counter medications sent in to school will be kept until the end of the school year unless directed otherwise.
Fever, Vomiting and Diarrhea Policy
Children with a fever who are ill should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before attending school.
Children who are vomiting or have diarrhea (defined as 2 or more liquid stools in a 24-hour period) should be free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before attending school.
