1st Grade: 450

2nd Grade: 1150

3rd Grade: 670

thank you for showing our teachers the love this week!

STAAR Tests - May 13th and 14th

All 3rd grade students will be taking the STAAR Math and Reading tests on Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th. PTO is providing snacks and water to all students testing. Students will be testing throughout the building, so we ask that visits to campus on testing days be kept at a minimum. Visitors will not be allowed in testing areas of the campus or be able to eat lunch with 3rd grade students on testing days. If you have a student testing, please make sure that he/she gets plenty of rest the night before the tests, arrives at school on time, and does not leave early to attend doctor's appointments.

Keep in mind that the purpose of the STAAR test is to see how students have mastered the skills taught all year, and it is just one of the many measures we use to ensure that students have mastered the skills needed to be successful next year.

Volunteer Brunch

We had several volunteers stop by the Reading Lab today to enjoy a yummy brunch as our way of showing our appreciation for all they do for our school! We could not accomplish the many things we do throughout the day without volunteers.

Kinder/First Grade Field Day

The weather was unseasonably cold, and the drizzle/rain delayed the start by an hour, but Kinder and First Grade traveled to LVHS for Field Day. Thank you to the volunteers who braved the weather to help run stations. The students had a blast!

Field Day for Second and Third Grades will be Monday, May 20th.

Ocean Week 2019

Ocean Week 2019 begins next Friday, and we are so excited for this yearly tradition of studying about the different habitats of the ocean. Grade level hallways will be turned into different ocean habitats that students have researched throughout the week. Here is the schedule for the week, and the different habitats grade levels research:

Kinder: Habitat – Pond

1st Grade: Habitat – Rocky Seashore

2nd Grade: Habitat – Sandy Beach

3rd Grade: Habitat – Wetlands

Art: Habitat - Deep Ocean/Kelp Forest

Weekly Activities:

Friday, May 17: Bubbles and Blubber

Monday, May 20: Touch Tanks

Tuesday, May 21: Fishing/Casting

Wednesday, May 22: Scavenger Hunt and Closing Ceremony from 1:30-2:30. All grade levels will have a part in the Closing Ceremony since we will not have an Opening Ceremony.

If you plan on attending the Closing Ceremony, please plan on arriving early for parking and checking in to receive a Visitor's badge. Visitors who park in the back of the school will have to enter the school through the front door for safety purposes. Please be patient when checking in, as this is a highly attended event and all visitors must receive a Visitor's badge before entering the main building. Thank you for your patience.

Character Trait of The Month...

May's Character Trait is Gratitude. Here are ways that students can demonstrate Integrity:

  • Say thank you for the things that you receive;
  • Think about what you are thankful for and why;
  • Show others how nice it feels to be remembered and appreciated by someone;
  • Write thank you cards;
  • Enjoy giving back;
  • Understand that you are not owed things, you earn them.

Counselor's Corner

Hello LVES Families! We have wrapped up our guidance lessons for the school year, and this month we learned what it means to show and have Gratitude. Children learn respect and how to show appreciation to others from parents, as parents are their first role models. Show your child the importance of saying thank you to those that are serving you, helping you, or when you notice someone’s effort to do something.

When children understand what it means to be grateful for what they have, it can have a positive effect on their attitude and perspective. At home, think about starting a gratitude journal with your child. Get a blank notebook (I have many--if you’d like for me to send one home with your child, let me know!) and work together to design it. Each night, or as often as possible, spend time together adding the things you are thankful for.

“Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you'll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you'll find that you have more of it.” ~Ralph Marston

~Ralph Marston
