Happy Holidays!
Dear Atholton Families,
What better way to segue into the holiday season than a performing arts winter concert! Kudos to the Atholton High School Band, Chorus, and Orchestra. The administrators and I thoroughly enjoyed each performance and are so proud of the phenomenal talent in our school. Kudos to Mr. Posner, Mr. Woomert, and Mrs. Meloro!
Our Stuff The Bus campaign was a huge success! Thank you once again to our Boosters for organizing this outreach to help those in need. Our athletes, musicians, JROTC and robotics students all pitched in to help stuff the bus!
This coming week is an exciting one! We have over 200 eighth graders visiting Atholton on Tuesday for our first ever STEMapalooza event. Designed to get more students interested in engineering and computer science courses, our organizer, Ms. Fregeau and her students are excited to share how fun studying in these areas can be. Wednesday is ALUMNI DAY. We welcome back invited students who have graduated to speak to our juniors and seniors about what to expect as they begin their transition out of high school. We cannot wait to see our former students!
Lastly, as we near the end of 2018 and reflect on the gifts that our community has given and received in the past year, I feel very lucky to be a part of such a bright, lively, and uplifting group. In many ways small and large we are a remarkable community. Our families represent widely diverse traditions and beliefs from different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. That diversity is shared with all of us and teaches us about the importance of a global community. Every member of our community contributes to the values that we teach our children and creates an environment that honors each person. Thank you for the special contributions each of you have made to all of us. I wish you peace, understanding and contentment in 2019. May we each have opportunities to continue to learn and work in productive and satisfying ways, and to give and receive in equal measure.
See you next year!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
Principal
Important Information
Testing Information
PSAT score reports, test booklets, and PSAT information sheets will be distributed to students in grades 9, 10, and 11 who participated in October's PSAT. Students will receive this information on Thursday or Friday (12/20-12/21/18) through English classes. Atholton will host the county event in January to further explain the score reports and the College Board process. Stay tuned for the date!
Students who participated in the grade 8 Maryland Integrated Science Assessment last school year will be receiving home reports on Tuesday, 12/18/18, from period 1 teachers. MISA is Maryland's new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) aligned assessment. MISA replaced the MSA Science test in all Maryland schools and was phased in beginning in 2017. Results are being reported late due to the process of setting performance levels. Students participate in MISA in grades 5, 8, and 11. More information on the MISA can be found here.

Course Registration for 2019 -- 2020
Teachers will begin making course recommendations for core graduation classes this week (Math, English, Social Studies, Science and World Language). Once the recommendation has been made, students and parents will be able to view the recommendation online. Teachers are encouraged to have conversations with their students about the next course. If a student would like to waive into another course, the form will be available in January. Please make sure to have a discussion with the teacher and/or counselor to make the best decision for your student. The window for these recommendations will close on December 19th. Students will have an opportunity to make selections about elective courses beginning on January 3 until January 11. Scheduling Night is January 7 @6:30pm. If you have any questions about this process, please contact your students counselor.
