Letter From the Principal
In some big staffing news, I want to formally announce the retirement of Mrs. Kathy Osborne, our lead custodian. Thank you to our school community for wishing Mrs. Osborne well in her future endeavors and all of your support to her as she opens a new chapter in her life. We thank Mrs. Osborne for her many years of service to GVES and the greater FCPS community. Her commitment to students and their learning will be missed.
I also want to announce the resignation of Mrs. Caitlin Ward, our assistant principal. She will be moving to the Philadelphia area with her family and starting a new adventure there. Please join me in thanking Mrs. Ward for her service to the GVES community and wishing her well in her future endeavors.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working with Human Resources and the School Administration and Instructional Leadership office to fill these critical positions.
The fall weather has settled in. Once again, be sure to monitor the temperatures and send your students in with appropriate clothing to go outdoors for recess. With that being said, sometimes children do leave items behind. We have a lost and found section near our cafeteria. Please remind your child to check this area if they are missing something. We will hold onto all items until the Thanksgiving Break. At the break we will donate any unclaimed items to Goodwill. We will begin to make announcements daily for students to check the lost and found. Please also feel free to come in and check the lost and found if you know your child is missing something. Be sure to sign into the front office, before visiting.
It was great to see our community show unity during our spirit week to Stomp Out Bullying and Character Counts Week. Our staff engaged students in learning many different ways to extend kindness and work through conflict in and out of school. Our goal is to use these educational opportunities to encourage our students to build on their relationships through respect, responsibility, and readiness. Together, we can continue to spread kindness and respect by participating in these events where we show our Giant pride and come together as one community. We thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to reach out to our administration if you have any questions or ideas for sharing our unity and spreading kindness. Our school goal this year is to build unity through equity for independence and resilience!
We will also continue to celebrate our National Heritage Months each month as a way to celebrate our diversity and help our learning community about all the cultures in our school. We recognized Hispanic Heritage Month in October and will focus on Native American Heritage Month in November.
Finally, thanks again to our wonderful volunteers for supporting our school program. We also thank the PTA for the support provided and partnership this school year which so far includes: the Ice Cream Social, School Movie Nights, the Fall Trunk or Treat, he Fall Reading Parties, the upcoming Fun Run Fundraiser, and so much more! If you haven’t done so, we highly encourage you to join the PTA to support this tremendous partner for our school and your child.
Yours in teaching and learning,
Dr. Giuseppe DiMonte

The PTA is providing classroom parties to monthly and annual winners with the most Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers. Kids of WatchDOGS will also receive a prize that day! Learn more about the program on the WatchDOGS Home Page.
