THIRD GRADE NEWS
#Thrivingthirds
Respect - Seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care
Here Comes Week 27!
Open house was a success! We loved seeing each of our students taking initiative and showing you what they have learned! Only one more week until spring break!
Please make sure that you talk to your child about working hard in the classroom. Third grade is really needing to work on our listening skills and making sure that they are doing everything they can to succeed! Please reiterate the importance of school and all that they can and will learn! We love having you as a part of our team!
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
- We will use context to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
- We will synthesize information to determine their importance.
- We will explain relationships between major and minor characters and their importance.
- We will analyze plot elements.
- We will identify text and graphic features and how they enhance the text.
- We will explain the author's use of imagery and similes.
Writing:
- We will create a response to a constructed response question.
Social Studies:
We will evaluate the heroic deeds of some national and local heros.
Math:
We will create 2-dimensional shapes based on a given number of sides and vertices.
We will classify and sort 3-dimensional solids based on their attributes.
We will use formal and geometric language to describe 3-dimensional solids.
We will compare, classify and sort two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures based on their attributes using geometric language.
Science:
We will explore how the Earth consists of natural resources and its surface is constantly changing.
We will explore the characteristics of natural resources that make them useful in products and materials such as clothing and furniture and how resources may be conserved.
STAAR and TELPAS online at home practice -
As we continue to prepare for our next round of Interim Assessments next month, please use this link to practice with your child at home.
1. Students will use the guest login.
2. Select the appropriate grade level.
3. Select 2022 STAAR Redesign Practice Tests
4. Select the Subject - Reading or Math
This practice is strictly for exposure to the testing format and tools. Though it will give you insight to how your student is doing if you explore with them! It is HIGHLY encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to practice.
The district has a google site with videos that show how to use the online tools. These were introduced to students before they took IA#1, but can be accessed here for review.

Healthy Snacks... Healthy Brain!
PEANUT FREE SNACKS!
We want to be sensitive to some severe needs of some of our Dolphin family as we plan for the snacks we send to school. Please do not send ANY peanut butter or peanut containing snacks with your child!
Please pack a healthy snack for your child's afternoon snack! Foods such as carrots, yogurt, apple sauce, fruits, pretzels, etc are encouraged! This is a snack where your child can discreetly munch on without disrupting others. In other words, crinkling wrappers or snacks that leave residue behind should be avoided, especially with our new technology! Due to allergies, snacks will not be shared and due to efficiency of instructional time, we will not stop for snacking. They will be eating their snack along with completing their work.
Unhealthy foods such as chips, cookies, donuts, candy, etc. will not be allowed and we will ask your child to save it for home or lunch. If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher.
