The Peoples Party

Political: During the time of Industrialization,The Peoples Party, also known as The Populist Party was middle class, based of mainly farmers, who were against the Democratic and Republic parties because they ignored all of their common wants and necessities. They were having to pay more taxes and it was harder to pay because of the drought in the Midwest, crop failures, poor marketing and failing prices. So they called for a convention "The Populist Convection of 1896". I am proud of this because they stood up for what they needed and through the transformations in America during this time. My representation is a People's Party campaign poster of Thomas E. Watson.

Invention of the Rairoad

Economic: The invention of the transcontinental railroad was a major part of the American history. I'm extremely proud of the economic growth that the railroad gave to America. It gave us new routing for goods; trade markets and productions grew vastly. It made many products cheaper and got to places much quicker. My representation for this is a picture taken of a group of men apart of the railroad showing how far it goes in just one day.

Social Darwinism

Social/Cultural: During the Industrialization period Social Darwinism took a pretty big role.

"Survival of the fittest", was the sorta slogan for it. Laissez-faire was set up by Social Darwinists to let there be some competing between social and business type of settings. I am proud that they could change the way that they were having to compete in society and not have to compete by social ill (poverty) or by them regulating the economy. My evidence for this is a man asking what social darwinism is and the women replies that it is survival of the richest, used to show the ironicness of "survival of the fittest".

Political Bosses

Political: immigration was a HUGE part of American history. So when immigrants came to America they would have to find places to live. Then people called politcal bosses came around to give them a place to stay in exchange for the immigrants to vote for whoever they asked for. They made so much money and power by doing this, more and more political bosses stated to become. I am not proud of this because the immigrants aren't getting the right kind of freedom by having to vote for that one person but also giving that person false votes. It could be the worst person running in office but he got many votes because the immigrants were forced into doing so. My picture shows a political boss with people "under his thumb" meaning he is in control of what they do.

Tenement Houses

Economic: Tenement houses were one of the many things America did wrong for immigration. They were tore down houses, no bigger than a room. They carried so much bacteria and made many immigrants very ill. I am not proud of this because America should have done something to show the immigrants how it really was to move to America, this gave them false hope. My example for this is a picture taken of people in an actual tenement building to show exactly how awful it was.

Chinese Exclusion Act

Social/Cultural: The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was a law passed by Congress, signed by President Chester. It was a ten year law restricting all Chinese from becoming U.S. citizens. This law restricted the immigration of the Chinese to America. It was passed because of the many fears brought by the Chinese in working places, they worked harder and many Americans were unemployed because of them. I am not proud of this law because if America is allowing other race of immigrants into America, it is socially unfair for them to exclude the Chinese. My example for this is a picture of a Chinese immigrant not allowed into "the golden gates of liberty" representing America.

Labor Unions

Political: During Urbanization, many people needed a job to survive. But a boom in the population made it much harder for anyone to find a job. People would work in poor conditions risking life or death measures or illness. The job owners didn't care if anything happened to them, they would just find someone else to replace them, because they were the ones making big money. So a Labor union was invented to get rid of all of these poor working conditions, more job opportunity and to protect their further rights. I am proud of this because i think is it very good for them to stand up for better work places, its unfair for people to work in such bad conditions and them not get paid very much. My photo representation of labor unions is men making one big fist, representing them all standing up as one.

Telephone

Economic: The invention of the Telephone was one of the biggest discoveries every made. It was invented by Alexander Graham Bell on March 10, 1876 in his own laboratory. It took communication to and entire new level. People were able to talk anywhere they wanted and could hear & speak to the other person. The famous first words were Mr. Bell saying "Watson, come here!". I am proud of this invention because of how positively it effected America. My example is a picture of Alexander Graham Bell speaking into the worlds first telephone.

Great Migration

Social/Cultural: The Great Migration was a widespread movement of African Americans from the South to the North. Around 6 million African Americans were moved in this migration, due to increase in racism, segregation, and violent acts of lynching. It had pros and cons to the move. Some cons were that they had to just pick up and move to somewhere they had never been and start their lives all over again. But they had a lot more job opportunities then they did and could live somewhere much better. I am not necessarily proud that we moved the African Americans from their homes but happy that they moved from the racism and lynching. My representation of the Great Migration is a photo taken of a African American family in the midst of the move.

Meat Inspection Act

Political: The Meat Inspection Act was an act passed by. Theodore Roosevelt. It was to insure that all animals before consumed were properly inspected to guarantee the best food. I am very proud that we passed this law because without it we would be consuming bad quality food items. My example of this is a photo of a man inspecting some cows before they are being processed.

Sherman Anti-Trust Act

Economic: The Sherman Anti-trust act was a law passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts. It was passed on July 2, 1890. It also prohibited all monopolistic business practices. I am very proud of this because it caused America to grow economically very well. My representation is a picture representing the causes and effects of this act.

Muckrakers

Social/Cultural: During Progressivism muckrakers were a huge deal. They were United States writers that showed Americas corruptions of this time. For example, Ida Tarbell, she was an American muckraker who had a huge influence in the standard oil industry. She wrote the book "The History of the Standard Oil Company", which went viral. I am proud of Muckrakers because they stood up and spoke out about Americas problems. My example is a self portrait of Ida Tarbell.

Treaty of Portsmouth

Political: Through out Imperialism, tension between Russia and Japan was very high. So Theodore Roosevelt decided to make a treaty between them so they could live in peace. Then the Treaty of Portsmouth came along and everything was good. I am very proud he signed for this treaty because it made America look extremely imperial.

Panama Canal

Economic: The Panama Canal help Americas trade an exponential amount. America now had a much easier and quicker way to do trade, better way to travel back and forth but also helped production levels. I am very proud of the Panama Canal because it better America economically.

Wilson's 14 Points

Political: Wilson's 14 points made a huge difference in America politically. It not only just caused peace but helped with Americas League of Nations, freedom of the seas and equal trade. I am very proud of this because of the positive influence it had on America during World War 1.

League of Nations
