Lino: Sticky Notes Online

Lino is a free sticky & canvas service that requires nothing but a Web browser. After you sign up, you can create an online bulletin board in which "sticky notes" can be posted. This is a fun and engaging activity for students, and it allows students to assess quickly while all students are able to provide answers. This activity could also be given to the students to make a sticky canvas during an entire unit of study. There are just so many possibilities.

Malicious Emails

We have seen an increase of malicious email messages being sent to all staff. These messages contain harmful attachments that can cause virus and spyware issues that impact several people. De Soto is not the only institution impacted by these emails. Several universities, companies and other school districts have reported these malicious messages as well. De Soto does have a spam filter in place to catch malicious messages however there is not a single spam filtering utility that will detect all of these messages. k12itc staff are working to remove all of the malicious messages ASAP.

Please open messages and attachments with caution. A few key things to be aware of and avoid:

  • Messages with bad grammar or misspellings such as "You have received a fa" or "Your documen"
  • DO NOT open attachments that end in .zip
  • Messages from someone you know with a suspicious attachment that you are not expecting
  • Alarmist messages and threats of account closures
  • Promises of money for little or no effort
  • Deals that sound too good to be true
  • Requests to donate to a charitable organization after a disaster that has been in the news
  • Messages stating you have a shipment
  • Account information requests that look as if they came from a financial institution
  • System administrator messages requesting your personal information, usernames, and/or passwords

If you have received a message and you are unsure what action to take, please contact the help desk immediately.

Best Regards,

k12itc

Career & Technical Education (CTE) Teacher Externships

In an effort to increase their knowledge and expertise, the Career & Technical Education teachers have been collaborating with professionals in their content area field. This past fall Cindy Swartz, Broadcast & Video Production teacher at Mill Valley High School, had the opportunity to film the Kansas University vs. Iowa University football game. She was able to shoot some very close up footage and meet several people in the press box.
