The Athenian Government
Our government is a democracy so our citizens can make the decisions. We believe that our people have a say. After all, shouldn't you able to have a say for the polis your in. Unlike Sparta, who just has a few rulers who do everything. We have the Council of 500, witch is a council where you proposing the laws the assembly votes on. To get in, you must be one of the lucky 500 men or woman who win the lottery. You could be rich or poor, and you get paid for being in the council too! We choose 10 experienced generals to lead Greece. These generals command the Army and the Navy and they also can act as judges.
Our Temples
We built temples to honor the gods. Especially Athena because the battled Poseidon for control of our city. Athena also gave us our first olive tree during the battle.
The Olympics
Only men can participate in and view the Olympic games. Athletes competed by themselves, not as part of a team. The contests consist of running, jumping, wrestling and boxing. Each winner athlete wins a crown of olive leaves and brings glory to his city.
Our education
Unlike Sparta when you would turn 7 and it was off to military school, we demand a more rounded education for our students. In Athenian schools, one teacher taught boys to read, write, and do arithmetic (math). Another teacher taught them sports. A third teacher taught them to sing and play an stringed instrument called the lyre.
