Ryan Strober

February 2016 Student Portfolio

English 3

I would really like to see Ryan take more time with his work. Ryan participates with great enthusiasm which I appreciate but I'd like him to be less talkative when others are presenting. I'm looking forward to starting our next unit on poetry and seeing how Ryan analyzes and presents.

U.S. History

Ryan is progressing well. He has been keeping up with his assignments and participating in class. He tends to be more social than necessary in class and we have been working to tone this down. We will be concentrating on expository writing and presentation skills this semester. Ryan definitely needs to work on structure, word choice, and organization in his written work and we will be focusing on these elements of his writing. Ryan has good presentation skills, and we will work to make them stronger and more polished.

Environmental Science

In this class we are learning about the Environment in relation to Florida. We do current events so the students can know what is happening in the news for the week. It is a pleasure to have Ryan in my class. Ryan sometime looses focus in class but I am working with him on it.

Latin 1

The students assessed themselves by translating thirty lines containing all of the new forms they learned in this unit. They are now completing an essay and artwork based on the major deities of the Roman pantheon. The class has been working in pairs, and I think Ryan enjoys the close give-and-take between himself and his partner, allowing more opening-up and examination of details. He is cheery and always inquisitive. He ought to be sure to finish assignments, as incompleteness affects his grade.

Ryan continues to work on demonstrating competency in math class. Geometry requires a strong mastery of basic math skills. I am working with Ryan to create a set of reference skills sheets for his use as we move into higher order math problems. Each reference sheet will take a basic concept and break it down into the required steps necessary to solve that type of problem. Ryan will use these reference sheets in conjunction with all higher level multi-step problems. Ryan has missed a lot of class in the past few weeks and as of today (2/25) he has not submitted any of his work. I have spoken to him and walked him through how to find everything on Moodle that he needs to catch up including resources for extra instruction if necessary. At the moment, Ryan has not earned a passing grade in Geometry. I expect his grade to improve as he submits work for credit.

US History Arts Integration

In US Art, we have chosen the great American illustrator, Norman Rockwell, to help us explore our personal and family values. We are utilizing his illustration techniques to complete our own illustrations. He used photographs and sources for all of his imagery. Ryan is doing his best to recreate the painting he chose to copy.
