Bowie Choir Update

December 4, 2015

SO MUCH INFORMATION!!!

(this is why I should send an update out weekly)

In all seriousness - I'm sorry that there haven't been more of these! There's been so much going on and it's all been back to back to back, that finding the time to put together the update has been difficult. Any need-to-know-right-now information has been sent out via Remind and CHARMS email, so if you're not signed up for Remind or haven't updated your CHARMS email account, please do so! You don't want to be left out! Regarding these updates, I pledge to do better. (On the upside, I did keep my promise of not spamming your inbox!).

Angel Tree - One Week Only!

This week (from 12/3 - 12/11) we are collecting gifts and money for purchasing gifts for our Bowie Choir Angel Tree Kid. We have one child - here are his particulars:

  • Boy
  • Age 10
  • Shirt Size: 10
  • Pant Size: 10
  • Needs: clothes
  • Wants: Legos, Cars

Let's give this 10-year old a blessing this Christmas! Please bring what you can (even a dollar makes a difference) and put it in the mailbox. Our Choir Officers and Booster Club will shop the weekend of Dec. 12-13 with money collected and turn in our gifts for our Angel on Monday, Dec. 14.

TMEA All-State Choir Update

Congratulations to Andrew Martin! Andrew (your choir president, btw) made 1st Chair in the Third Round Auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir. He will travel to Midland in January for Area Auditions, the final step to making the All-State Choir!

In addition to auditions, Andrew performed with the Region Choir the weekend before Thanksgiving. Also performing at this concert were Diamonique Anderson (District Choir), Kenidee Cooper and Matthew O'Brien (9/10 Honor Choir). This was a great performance experience for all of them, and we would love to see YOU at these concerts next year! All-State Auditions begin at the beginning of the school year, with Choir Camps happening throughout the summer - be looking out for more information and lets begin a Bowie Revolution in the audition process next year!

Booster Club Donations

  • If you are looking for an end-of-year tax write off, or know of a business looking for one, donate to the Bowie Choir Booster Club! Receipt for tax deductions will be given when the donation is received by the booster club. You can use the website for credit card donation (Paypal) or give a check to Diane Martin or Mr. Lobaugh.
  • Still doing some holiday shopping online? Use our Bowie Choir Amazon Link! It costs you nothing, and we get a little help from Amazon!

Chorale Sectionals

Just a reminder Bowie Chorale (that's 7th Period if you're not sure): Your are having sectionals after school regularly! Your section leader is setting these up, so check with them for dates and times (usually 3-3:30). They are required, and attendance is being taken as part of your grade in the class. Be sure to speak with your section leader if you have a conflict - do NOT just not show up!

Concerts This Week!

Our Holiday Concert is Thursday, Dec. 10! See all information below about volunteer needs, food needs, poinsettia delivery, report times, etc.

Cookie Donations

Please have your student deliver one dozen cookies to the choir room by noon on Thursday, Dec. 10 for our after concert reception!

Parent Volunteers for Concert

Parent volunteers are needed to sit with choir classes during the concert. This allows the directors to focus on the performances and not have to worry about the audience etiquette. If you are able to help by sitting with students during the concert, please contact Robin Darwin.

Reception Following

Speaking of the reception - it is always a wonderful time of fellowship after our concerts. Please join us in a light cookie and punch reception in the cafeteria.

The Booster Club needs help with serving for the reception. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Rosalyn Morris.

Poinsettia delivery

Poinsettias that were sold by students during our fund raiser before Thanksgiving will be available for pick up following the concert Thursday. ALL POINSETTIAS MUST BE PICKED UP on Thursday - if the persons that purchased the poinsettias are not at the concert, the student who sold the poinsettias must take the plant and deliver it. The following helpers are needed:

  1. We need parent help with poinsettia delivery and decorating, around noon on Dec. 10. If you are able to help with delivery and decorating the stage, please contact Diane Martin.
  2. We will need parents to also help with poinsettia distribution following the concert. Again, contact Mrs. Martin if you are able to help.

Logistic Rehearsal Wednesday

Students: there will be a required rehearsal from 3:00-4:30 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 9. This rehearsal will walk through the logistics of the concert, and be the only opportunity we have to rehearse group numbers before the concert. This is a mandatory concert - please make arrangements to attend.

Thursday Report Times

Students should be in the choir room at 6:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 10, wearing their concert uniforms and all make up and hair completed. Holiday hats and/or scarves are allowed at this concert, but your uniform needs to remain intact and visible. Do not forget proper shoes! Also, a reminder to please wear deodorant, but NOT perfume/cologne, as these smells can cause allergies to act up under the heat of the stage lights.

Auditorium doors will open to the audience at 6:30 PM, and the concert will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.

Video Recording

Our concert will be professionally recorded by INSPIRED IMAGING for archival purposes. We have made the decision at this concert not to offer purchase of DVD's at the concert, and instead to cover the cost of recording (approx. $300) as a department. Please consider donating a few dollars the evening of the concert to help offset the cost of this recording. A video link will be emailed to all email accounts in our CHARMS database the week following the concert, so that you can enjoy the concert with your family over the holidays.
