Thoughts from Dr. Voelkl
Virtual Learning When Your Child is Home
1. Your child may be able to join in class but depending on what materials they brought home with them may not be able to complete all of the work.
2. The links to participate in their classes can be found in their google classrooms. Students in higher grade levels i.e. 5th grade and up will be able to "join" in with a greater level of independence than some of our younger kiddos. In other words, most should know where to go and what to do :-)
3. Teachers are always happy and eager to help but may not be able to respond to an email first thing in the morning to walk through the process as they are preparing to start their school day. We may be able to help facilitate this process from the office but cannot guarantee we will be able to do so as soon as class starts.
4. As we have continued to move through this hybrid/virtual model we continue to LEARN and GROW more and more each day. As I have told our teachers I think we might be pretty amazing at this by next year. In other words, we are all continuing to research, practice, make new mistakes, collaborate, learn and share. These practices will lead to tremendous growth but never perfection.
5. If your child does log in and participate in class they are marked as Virtually Learning for that day and NOT marked simply as absent. If they are capable and able PLEASE have them join in.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATIENCE! If you are a "true" virtual family I will be sending a google form link shortly to help all of us continue to reflect on our practices.
A note from Fr. Dotson:
Our school is blessed with a wonderful faculty and staff that do so much for the sake of our children.
This year, they are facing even more challenges than usual. As a school family, one of the best ways that we can support them is by prayer. We are asking every school family to choose one day during the school year in which they will pray for our faculty and staff in a very particular and intentional way.
The goal is to have every school day covered between now and the end of the school year, so that our faculty and staff know that they are covered by our prayers every day as they serve our children. To help with this, we have created a Signup Genius here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B44A4AB2FA1FB6-school Each family is asked to sign up for at least one date. There can be more than one family on a date. Please help us with our goal of having every day filled. Our faculty and staff do so much, and this is a beautiful way for us to support them and show them our thanks.
Fr. William Dotson
KEEP EVERYONE SAFE - PARKING LOT PROCEDURES
You may have noticed that the side of 5th street adjacent to the school has now been ZONED A NO PARKING AREA from 6:00 am until 6:30 pm Monday through Friday. Our HOPE is that this will help alleviate congestion during morning drop-off and ensure student safety during parent pick-up. For those of us whose vehicles have paid the price of parking here perhaps we are saving another car or two in the process as well :-)

NEW THIS YEAR! YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR BASK!
We need to be able to properly staff BASK. Due to Covid, we have limited spots due to our staffing. It is VERY important to sign up as early as possible. Please try to avoid signing up the day of, but we do know that there are times that it can't be avoided.
Please send any changes or correspondence related to BASK to email@example.com. This email is accessible by all BASK supervisors. Additionally, please drop a note to this email address if someone other than the typical pick up person is picking up. This helps us keep track of dismissal changes and keeps our kids safe.
****As a reminder, we prefer you pay with a check. If you need to pay with cash please contact the main office to discuss the process this year, as it needs to be adjusted due to Covid. Do NOT hand cash to the BASK workers, they do not have a place to lock it up.

Deep thoughts from SCB.....

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
For the family and friends of three year-old Ambrose Fleming, nephew of Susie Choinka and Genny Glosier, who gained his angel wings this weekend after a tragic accident.
THANK YOU to ALL OF THE FAMILIES who continue to communicate with us openly and honestly to help ensure the health and safety of all.
Looking for ways to get involved...
Saint Charles Borromeo has COUNTLESS ways for families to become involved in our community. Every PARENT is an honorary member of our Home and School organization. This organization, as well as our School Board and Athletic Association are often seeking new members to serve as Board Members and / or heads of various committees. As these roles become available we will share additional details with everyone. This year is an AUCTION YEAR which also means countless additional ways to get involved with this event. If you are interested in becoming involved in this event please contact Jill Kessler at firstname.lastname@example.org
If at any time you have NEW ideas or ways for us to grow and come together as a community PLEASE feel free to share with us!
