What's Happening...
AP testing concluded this week with 104 students taking 120+ exams. Sophomores will be participating in MCAS math exams on Wednesday, 5/18 and Thursday, 5/19.
As a reminder there is no school on Tuesday, May 17th due to the town elections.
The Academic Excellence Awards ceremony took place on Thursday recognizing 22 members of the Class of 2022 that earned a GPA of 3.75 or higher during their high school career. Congratulations on this great achievement. The ceremony presentation can be found here.
Last Saturday, the Tyngsborough High School Robotics team hosted the regional Botball Tournament which consisted of 10 teams. An initial seeding round of three matches took place to create the tournament bracket. Tyngsborough performed well, winning their first two matches before falling in the semifinals. The team battled back with a win over Pembroke in the consolation finals for a 3rd place finish overall.
Congratulations to our senior athletes! This week softball, girls tennis, and girls lacrosse all recognized and celebrated their seniors. Thank you for the last four years.

Illness update from the Health Office
We are still seeing an increase in illnesses among our student body which include many viral and bacterial infections (influenza A, stomach bug, strep throat, etc.) and recent increase in Covid cases across the district as well as in the community. Consistent with the TPS Illness Protocols please keep your child home from school if they have symptoms of illness and contact your child’s physician as well as the school nurse. Please keep in mind that while not all illnesses are Covid related, it is important to reduce the transmission of ALL communicable diseases to keep our school community healthy.
If your child has symptoms, especially those outlined by DESE as covid-like symptoms as listed by the Department of Public Health (DPH), it is recommended to test your child for Covid-19. If you choose to utilize an antigen (at-home) test, and if it is negative, DPH recommends testing again 24-48 hours after the first test. It would be best practice to test your child before sending them back to school.
Tyngsborough Public Schools is participating in the at-home rapid antigen test program recommended and offered by DESE. Once signed up for this program, your child will receive an at-home rapid antigen test 2-pack every other week enabling them to test at home. Students participating in the at home antigen program are encouraged to test weekly and encouraged to use those tests in the instance of any symptoms or exposure. If you have not yet opted-in, but would like to do so, please click here.
If your child is diagnosed with Covid-19 or experiences an out of school exposure, please contact your child’s pediatrician and notify the school nurse. Please review state guidelines on Covid-19: TPS COVID-19
Covid vaccinations are available for anyone age 5 and up. More information about the vaccine can be found on the CDC website. The Tyngsborough Board of Health is regularly scheduling covid vaccine clinics for the community. Please visit their Covid-19 Information Page for details about scheduling a vaccine as well as information about Covid-19 in the community.
STUDENTS ENTERING GRADE 11 IN THE FALL
Under the guidelines of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Department of Education, it is the policy of the Tyngsborough Public School District that students must submit a current Physical Examination report to have on file in the nurse’s office prior to entry into Grade 11. Examination must be from within the previous twelve months to be considered current and must be signed by their medical provider. Documentation of immunization according to the Massachusetts School Immunization Requirements 2021-2022 is also required at this time. Documentation of Meningococcal conjugate vaccine, MenACWY (brand names Menveo or Menactra) is required prior to entry into Grade 11. The booster dose of MenACWY must be received on or after the students 16th birthday. (one or more doses of MenACWY vaccine are acceptable, as long as one dose was received on or after 16 years of age.) Students who are not 16 when they enter Grade 11 will need to provide documentation of booster dose once they turn 16.
Physical Examinations
A periodic physical examination is critically important for all children and adolescents. Ideally, I advise that students submit a copy of their Physical Exam to me as close as possible after the date they had it performed. Documentation of Physical Examination is also required prior to a student’s participation in competitive athletics on an annual basis. Early submission is very helpful in avoiding delay in your child’s participation in try-outs and starting the season.
Additionally, please keep the health office notified of any changes in your child’s health status to include fractures, sprains, concussions, new diagnosis, new medication or medication changes, surgery, hospitalization, etc.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the health and well being of your child, please contact me at the number below.
