Justiss Friends & Families,
Many times after school gets started parents tell us they ask their kids what they did at school and all they say is “play” or “nothing”.
So here are 5 things I think you could use to ask your child after school that maybe they will answer you with some more details!
- High, Low, What Do YOU Know?
- What was the highlight of your day?
- What was the low point?
- What did you learn?
- Can You Think of Something Kind You Noticed Today?
- This question will help promote kindness, empathy and emotional intelligence.
- What Was the Coolest Thing You Learned Today?
- It gives your child an opportunity to teach you something (a great confidence-booster!)
- What is the One Thing You Wish You Could Do Over or Do Differently?”
- This helps your child practice reflecting on their behavior and mentally rehearsing a different response.
- What Made You Laugh Today?
- The wires your child’s brain for positivity as they learn that something good happens every day!

October is a very busy time around Justiss Elementary! Just check out the calendar of upcoming events! One special week to look forward to, is Red Ribbon Week, October 23rd-27th! This year’s theme is “BE KIND TO YOUR MIND…LIVE DRUG FREE!” Throughout the month of October, I will be visiting classes and educating your child(ren) on the dangers of drugs and alcohol use and how to live a healthy and safe life. I would also like to encourage YOU to talk to your children about living a healthy and drug free life! Did you know that children of parents who talk to their elementary and teen children regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t! Sadly, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Sooo…what are you waiting for? Get to talking! Visit www.redribon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week and get tips for talking to your kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The life you save may be that of your own child or their dear friend!
Watch for notes informing you of the Red Ribbon activities and theme days! Let’s partner together to ensure that our children grow up to live healthy, happy, and drug free lives!
Kindest Regards,
