Marine biologists’ work involves both independent research and teamwork with other professionals. A marine biologist may work with engineers, business managers, technicians, and scientists from other disciplines. They might also act as consultants to government organizations, or become professors at colleges. Some marine biotechnologists develop new underwater technologies

High school students hoping to pursue a career as a marine biologist should begin by giving themselves groundings in appropriate subjects. Courses in biology, physics, chemistry, math (calculus and statistics), computers, and even Latin are recommended. Those with master’s degrees can work as laboratory technicians, research assistants, or in technical positions at public aquariums. A PhD is needed for most independent research and administrative positions, and to work in a large number of environmental protection agencies
