Six Facts About Kachina Dolls
- The word Kachina refers to powerful, spiritual beings of the Pueblo Villages of the American Southwest.
- Masked Kachinas make appearances during tribal ceremonies, bringing different kinds of blessings specific to each Kachina.
- Each Kachina spirit has a different type of power. Kachina Dolls are physical representations of these spirits.
- They are usually carved out of cottonwood. Afterward, they are painted and dressed in the same costume the Kachina spirits would be dressed in.
- You may find them dressed in different types of colors, jewelry, feathers, hair, plants, and other objects that help us identify the spirits.
- These dolls were used to teach children about the spirits and the world they live in.

The Denver March Powwow!
The Powwow spirit is an inclusive one, and attendees can get in on the action during the Intertribal Dance, featuring all the different styles of Powwow dancers and all different age groups dancing together. During these dances, men and women of all age groups, dancing all styles, join together on the floor to the beat of a hundred drums in an unforgettable, swirling sight of color.
