May Math Morning Reminder... and Other Updates!
I just wanted to take a moment to remind you of the math open house that Hopewell is hosting tomorrow morning. The event takes place from 9:30 - 11:00 in all classrooms around the school. The aim of the event is to help parents gain a better understanding on how mathematics instruction occurs in our classrooms. There has been some shift in pedagogy and a more hands on approach is being used. Come on in and take a look at the balanced Math model with a focus on proportional reasoning.
Here is the schedule for our morning:
9:00 - 9:40 --> Consolidation of 3 Part Math lesson. Students have been working on an open ended task in pairs. They have been asked to create various models of their given fraction, Students will then get a chance to walk around and add their input onto other students work. From there, we will judge the work from good, better and best.
9:40 - 10:00 --> Core French Math with Marion Shynal
10:00 - 11:00 --> B.U.I.L.D. Math Centers. Come and take a look at what hands on math instruction looks like. Be sure to read a little bit more about this prior to coming into the class. It will be posted outside the classroom.
Please pop in for some, or all of our morning. It would be a lot of fun to have the parents work on these centers with your child. I very much look forward to it!
In other news...
We will be attending the Children's Festival on Tuesday, May 12th which is this upcoming Tuesday. The cost of the trip is $19.00 which includes admission to the festival and 2 concerts. I've never been, but given what other staff members and students are saying... it's going to be a blast. I have to apologize that I am only getting the forms out today. They have been buried under things on my desk and I panicked and just realized today that they hadn't been sent home.
I know it's a quick turn around, but if you could have them back for me tomorrow that would be wonderful. Monday at the latest. I will still accept them on Tuesday, but that is not ideal, as that is the day of the trip.
We only have room for 3 parent volunteers (admission is free), and it will be a first come, first served basis.
That's all for now. Thank you so much for your ongoing support during a very hectic time of the year. Stay tuned for more information on how we will be wrapping up the year and some details on how the student levy (student fees) were spent in our classroom this year.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Mr. Lafrance
PS. Please don't forget to join us at 8:00 AM in the staff room for the volunteer appreciation breakfast being put on by the staff.
