The Woodlands High School
Highlander Happenings September 8 - September 19, 2020

RETURN TO SCHOOL REMINDERS:
- Students are required to wear face coverings at all times while on district transportation and in the facilities throughout the school day and at after-school events.
- The recommended PPE for students is a face mask that covers the mouth and nose at all times.
- If a student forgets their mask they may report to the Main Office, Clinic, or Grade-Level office to be issued a disposable face mask.
- Students should not change their instructional election to in-person/virtual or virtual/in-person instruction without consulting their respective guidance counselor.
- Deliveries of forgotten items to students such as lunches, athletic equipment, uniforms, assignments, etc will not be received in the reception area as we must limit the number of visitors to the facility. Students should plan accordingly. If a student forgets their lunch, they will be allowed to purchase or charge their lunch in the cafeteria. The front office will not receive lunch deliveries from parents or family members for students.
- Parents and students should review the CISD health screener frequently so as to appropriately monitor student health.
- Should a student become ill at school or have symptoms of COVID-19, they must report to the clinic isolation room immediately.
- Should a student who has been in attendance at school test positive for COVID-19, the school nurse must be contacted immediately, and the student should compose a list of all individuals with whom they may have had close contact to provide the school nurse.
Our goal is to open school safely and maintain a safe environment for all students - thank you for your assistance!
ATTENDANCE:
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Please take a moment to review the attendance procedures we feel will ensure a smooth, successful year.
Virtual Students will continue to complete the Daily Attendance assignment for each class according to the RED/GREEN Calendar.
In-Person Students that are absent from class on their day can login online and complete the Daily Attendance check for their classes and be counted present. However, In-Person students will need to communicate with their teacher about the lesson/instructional assignment for that day. Daily attendance must be completed by 11:59 P.M. on the day of instruction.
Students who are attending virtual instruction, but have elected to attend one or more classes on campus, must attend on a regular basis. Students will communicate with their teacher/coach, and this is expected each day for that class. Students at the main campus will enter the building and report directly to their class. Students at the freshman campus will enter & exit by the front office entrance. Students MAY NOT loiter in the building after their class is completed, as doing so will result in consequences.
Absences will accrue and all attendance policies will be in effect for all students. Students must be in attendance at least 90% of the time that classes are in session.
To report an absence, please call:
9th Grade (832) 592-8025
10th Grade (936) 709-1233
11th Grade (936) 709-1234
12th Grade (936) 709-1236
A full explanation of policies concerning attendance can be found in the TWHS Student/Parent handbook. The Attendance Office staff will happily answer any questions and assist you with any attendance related concerns. Feel free to call the numbers above at any time. You may leave a message if you call outside of the 7:00 to 3:00 office hours.
EARLY DISMISSAL & LATE ARRIVAL:

LIBRARY NEWS:
TWHS libraries offer two platforms for your reading needs: Destiny Discover and Sora. Both of these are accessed via the SSO and the Library Canvas courses.
Destiny Discover is the entire catalog of books at each campus--print, ebook, and audio book. At this time, students will need to log into Destiny Discover to browse and hold print books. The print books will be delivered to student's English teacher. See the attached document for Destiny Discover directions.
If interested in an audio or ebook, select the book title. You will be directed to choose to either open in Sora or on the web. Digital books have a two week check out, and if no one else is waiting for the title you may opt to renew. See the attached document for Sora directions.
Sora is only digital books (audio and ebooks). These books are accessible either via the web or through the downloadable app.
If we do not have a specific digital book that you would like, send your request to the librarian of your campus.
