George Burroughs in Salem Accused
Salem Witch Trials
Reverend George Burroughs Trial and Journey
Reverend George Burroughs was one of the former ministers in Salem. It all started in 1680 when he came to Salem Village from Wells Maine to become the minister of Salem. He had three wives (not all at the same time) but they all ended up dying.Which brings one of the many accusations that people made he might have been a wife beater, that's why people thought his wives died. He was accused of being a baptist which most believe is true, also a Wizard?
During the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 many bad things happen to lots of people in Salem Village. Men were accused of being wizard’s. Women were accused of being witches. Even children some were thought to be afflicted by witches or witchcraft. But George had some of the worst accusations. Such as being identified as “ Satan's Personal Representative” by other witches, and many other things that many would rather not bring up.
The Journey of George Burroughs Trial
But Reverend George Burroughs was executed on August 19, 1692. He was hanged. George was a very intelligent man he graduated from Harvard University in 1670. He was put through a lot just to be killed toward the end of the trials. One of the main reason’s he was accused was because of a dispute with the Putman family. Also being Reverend Samuel Parris’s rivel didn’t help his case very much. Before he was executed he recited the lord’s prayer “ Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever Amen. “ he recited with no error’s.
Currently, Salem Village still has disputes about what should of or could've been done instead of just killing them.
