Resources for Verification of F/R Meal Applications
What is Verification?
• Income eligibility;
• Receipt of assistance under SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, FDPIR, Medicaid Free or
• Other Source Categorical Eligibility
Verification must also include confirmation of any other information required on the application, such as household size.
ONLY schools that collect meal applications for student pricing conduct the verification process.
Who submits the Verification Report?
- Non-Pricing schools submit directly certified student data and enrollment as of October 31.
- RCCIs who do not have meal applications for day students will submit enrollment as of October 31.
- Pricing schools that collect meal applications will also submit the results of the verification process.
Verification Activities
Verification activities are NOT required for:
• Schools/RCCIs in which ALL children have been directly certified including children documented as eligible foster, migrant, runaway or homeless;
• RCCIs which do not have day students;
• Districts in which ALL schools electing the Community Eligibility Option;
• Districts in which ALL schools are Provision 2 schools in a non base year
Verification Reminders
Because October 1 falls on a Sunday, the verification process begins on Monday, October 2.
What sample method do you use?
Most point of sale systems calculate the number of applications to verify (sample size). Be sure to double check the sample size number by completing the Sample Size Calculator. *Verifying more applications than the sample size will result in a corrective action unless you intend to verify one "for cause".
Keep the completed sample size calculator for your records.
Adverse Action Timeline
Do you have a household change from F/R to Paid?
Know your timeline for adverse action notification.
Reference ARM section 6 Verification of Eligibility
Example:
- Nov. 1 - Letter sent to the household
- Nov. 10 - Provides 10 calendar days for appeal
- Nov. 24 - Benefit must be updated no later than this date
